The Senior Solutions Architect (Warehouse Automation) is a technical leader role that partners with our clients Distribution Center Engineering team to plan for, evaluate and implement industrial operational technologies (OT) needed to improve our distribution center and yard operations in North America.

You will be our clients primary OT subject matter expert and partner with OT vendors’ engineers to design and implement industrial equipment solutions. You will work at the intersection of OT and IT and collaborate with software, security, and network architects to ensure solutions’ adherence tour clients networking, security, and integration standards.

Technologies in scope support our clients warehouse and yard operations including material handling (product receiving, put away, tracking, picking, packing, labeling, loading), warehouse maintenance operations (cleaning, monitoring) and trailer tracking technologies. Those technologies include material handling robots, autonomous vehicles, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), RF readers, conveyors, automated packaging and labeling systems, WCS\WES systems, Industrial Control Systems (ICS) including SCADA Software, PLCs, sensors, scanners, printers, and yard operations software.

Candidate will report to Director of Solutions Architecture.

  • Contribute to warehouse automation technology roadmaps and present them to IT, Supply Chain and Enterprise leadership.
  • Provide technical advice into planning for and selection of industrial equipment within our clients distribution centers (warehouses).
  • Create architecture designs (conceptual, logical, and physical) for the proposed technologies ensuring that those designs are scalable, fault tolerant, secure, performant and follow our clients and industry’s standards.
  • Represent those designs in our clients Architecture Governance process.
  • Oversee and assist vendor personnel in the technical setup of equipment and software for proofs of concepts (POC) and production implementations.
  • Maintain documentation on existing technology setup and integrations within our clients distribution centers, including a reusable handbook for setup of technology within new distribution centers.
  • Develop and document, in partnership with other architects, reusable patterns and standards (IT network, communication protocols, security, and integrations) supporting the deployment and operations of industrial technology within our clients supply chain.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in technical field or equivalent work experience.

Demonstrated understanding of complex distribution center or manufacturing operations.

10+ years of hands-on experience designing, documenting, and implementing warehouse or manufacturing automation and yard management technologies including corresponding network, infrastructure, and security designs.

Ability to describe a complex technical topic in simple terms to all levels of organization including top management.

Experience working well on teams in a collaborative matrixed organization.

Experience integrating industrial technology to the broader software ecosystem.

Experience documenting and deploying warehouse automation standards and patterns.

Knowledge of SCADA, DCS, and ICS communications protocols.

Knowledge of Industrial Control Systems security architectures, cyber informed engineering, and secure communications strategies.

Experience with network, virtualization, server, and storage infrastructures.

At least one relevant technology/industry certification.

Experience with software management side of OT. Familiarity with AWS cloud software architecture, Python and SAP is a plus.

Ability to work remotely with travel between 10% and 30% within North America. null
