This position has the overall responsibility to fabricate prototype parts ensuring that the product conforms to requirements identified on the work order, customer blueprint, and/or Dexter’s Engineering specifications based on the direction of the engineering team.

Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position

This position has the overall responsibility to fabricate prototype parts ensuring that the product conforms to requirements identified on the work order, customer blueprint, and/or Dexter’s Engineering specifications based on the direction of the engineering team.

 Major Responsibilities

  • Work with design engineers to build prototype parts that are representative of design ideas/concepts on prints.
  • Follow engineering documentation & guidelines to assemble customer samples and other test samples.
  • Provide feedback to design engineers related to Bills of Materials, installation, validation, accessibility, and maintainability issues.
  • Works with the production team to gain experience in all the fabricating processes we use in the prototype projects.
  • Produces prototype fabrications in a timely and quality manner.
  • Maintains accurate records of all time and expenses incurred in the fabrication of each prototype order.
  • Coordinate the build of prototype material; track progress of prototype builds to meet customer schedules.
  • Inventory keeping of prototype and production release components.
  • Performs required inspections of conformance and immediately notifies the engineering team of any concerns or discrepancies.
  • Processes orders with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain a safe working environment through good housekeeping practices and adherence to safe work practices.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 2-3 years of related experience and/or training.
  • CAD software (Solidworks) is a plus
  • Basic math skills related to the shop area are required.
  • Basic with Microsoft Office

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints required and make modifications as necessary
  • Ability to make concept prints for parts during the prototyping phase
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment interfacing with the engineering team and machine shop
  • Knowledge and use of a wide variety of precision measuring equipment.
