Job Description

The Communications Specialist supports the Strategic Communications Manager in achieving communication goals for the City of Peoria. This role is crucial in educating the public and fostering community engagement through various channels, including press releases, video production, social media, and campaigns. By developing compelling content for both internal and external audiences, the Communications Specialist contributes to the formulation and maintenance of the city's communication strategies. The position necessitates exemplary written communication skills, experience in graphic design, hands-on experience in video production and editing, as well as a background in public relations or public service. This is a temporary position that is grant funded through December 31, 2024.

 Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three to five years of progressively responsible related experience required. A valid Driver's License or the ability to meet the transportation requirements of the job required. Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job considered.
 Supplemental Information

IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTES: Experience in creating compelling written, visual, and multimedia content for websites, social media, press releases, newsletters, and more. Skill in producing high-quality and engaging content through print and visual means. Knowledge in researching, developing, writing, and editing presentations, proclamations, and press releases. Knowledge of media relations and communications; experience with principles, techniques, and methods of marketing and communications; ability to adhere to deadlines; experience in communicating ideas and proposals effectively to diverse audiences. Experience with office equipment, video equipment, and personal computers to include word processing, Office, and a variety of presentation media. Skills in critical thinking, logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate complex situations. Ability to respond on short notice and perform job outside of normal business hours; adjust hours for events, special projects, and in times of emergency; plan and organize daily work routine; and establish priorities for the completion of work per sound time-management methodology.
