Job Description

PHYSICIAN (Multiple Positions), Greenville, IL

Responsible for admission and inpatient medical management services for patients, including emergency department consultations, admitting evaluations, daily patient care rounds, all routine medical care, diagnostic and therapeutic ordering, coordination of specialist care, patient and family communications, and the supervision of discharge planning for patients.   

This position at Vituity will have the additional following duties:

  • Prescribe or administer medication, therapy, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
  • Manage and treat common health problems, such as infections, influenza or pneumonia, as well as serious, chronic, and complex illnesses, in adolescents, adults, and the elderly.
  • Analyze records, reports, test results, or examination information to diagnose medical condition of patient.
  • Provide and manage long-term, comprehensive medical care, including diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of diseases, for adult patients in an office or hospital.
  • Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, or examination results.
  • Make diagnoses when different illnesses occur together or in situations where the diagnosis may be obscure.
  • Monitor patients’ conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
  • Immunize patients to protect them from preventable diseases.
  • Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary.
  • Advise surgeon of a patient’s risk status and recommend appropriate intervention to minimize risk.
  • Provide consulting services to other doctors caring for patients with special or difficult problems.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff.
  • Prepare government or organizational reports on birth, death, and disease statistics, workforce evaluations, or the medical status of individuals.
  • Plan, implement, or administer health programs in hospitals, businesses, or communities for prevention and treatment of injuries or illnesses.

The physician is tasked with directing and coordinating activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff that may be in assistance for any given patient case for which the physician is in charge. The physician will direct and coordinate on a case-by case-basis depending on the patient, not a specific employee. The position of “Physician” is not a supervisory position and is not in charge of supervising anyone.

Thus, the physician’s primary duties will be to provide medical services to patients in a hospital setting.

Schedule: Full-time position (40 hours per week/2080 hours per year). Hours and shifts vary, call and weekends required.

Education: Medical degree or foreign equivalent

Training: Completion of three years (36 months) in family or internal medicine residency. For this position, we will accept either a family medicine residency or an internal medicine residency.

Other requirements: Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE); and Illinois medical license or ability to obtain.
