Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SOCIAL WORKER (TITLE 5), Position Description Number T5013000 and is part of the IL MILPO, National Guard. Responsibilities As a SOCIAL WORKER (TITLE 5), GS-0185-11, you will: Ensure that curriculums and community intervention initiatives for each prevention program are research-based and supported by the literature. Conduct needs assessments, intake evaluations, and psycho-diagnostic assessments. Accomplish intake interviews to include family history, bio-psychosocial history, developmental and health histories, and presenting problems together with any relevant secondary information, screen records and personnel for security clearances and make administrative recommendations. Coordinate, and implement prevention and community outreach and education programs. Participate in community activities to incorporate complex strategies that enhance community strengths, reduce broad-based community needs, implement community problem solving methods, and forge community connections to promote psychologically healthy lifestyles. Coordinate substantial findings and possible effects of outreach efforts with key leaders to ensure they remain current on issues related to the program. Coordinate as key facilitator and team lead in the development and implementation of an annual, Unit-level psychological health strategic plan. Develop, teach, and provide oversight for classes that promote education and skill-building to enhance psychological and physical health. Liaison between the military and non- military community agencies, including medical agencies, schools, shelters, child care, and family support centers providing access to services that can improve and/or sustain the psychological health of National Guardsmen and families. Design and manage special programs, services, and information and awareness presentations, such as newspaper articles brochures describing ways to enhance psychological health, and national and local awareness theme events (e.g., Suicide Prevention month and National Depression Screening Day). Monitor prevention and outreach/education programs and access to services through timely and accurate evaluation activities. Serve as primary consultant and advisor on methods to successfully market the National Guard DPH. Prepare written evaluation reports with clinical impressions and recommendations. Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunity, and Threat (SWOT) analyses that form the basis for program development activities and action plans. Develop coordinated plans for reducing risk factors for individuals and within the community, and build and enhance a general culture that promotes psychological health and wellness. Develop and provide access to secondary preventive support services and psycho-educational skills-development activities such as parenting skills, stress management, change management, anger management, financial/money management, support groups for single parents, and couples communication. This is NOT an all-inclusive list of duties. Requirements Conditions of Employment Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Must obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance. This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program. Must be privileged for independent practice by the Credentials Committee at the employing Medical Treatment Facility Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft. Incumbent may share on-call duty during weeknights and/or weekends on a rotational basis as required consistent with other mental health professionals of the same specialty performing like duties. This position may be identified as having “regular contact with children,” requiring a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for the position. Must obtain/possess valid and current professional unrestricted license in the state of Illinois before appointment to position. Completion of appropriate clinical and administrative duties may involve “after hours” care or work in addition to regular duty hours. Qualifications Basic Education Requirement: You MUST possess a master’s degree, or higher doctorate degree, in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and acceptable to The Surgeon General. License Requirement: You must possess a valid and current professional unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. (License must be submitted at time of application.) For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09 Level. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess specialized experience for the GS-11 Level which includes at least 24 months of experience in clinical social work assignments. This experience demonstrates particular competencies of knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Must have specialized experience in professional social work that includes interviewing people to establish the nature and extent of their problems, helping them work-out plans for improving the situation, providing assistance and services, referring them to community resources and other organizations as indicated, and assisting them to understand and modify their own patterns of behavior when appropriate.
