General Information & Responsibilities

Responsible to keep areas assigned as clean as possible with the machines and equipment available. Custodian must be a qualified floor mechanic capable of performing all cleaning work necessary to clean and take care of any floor in the College. Participates in set-ups as directed. 2 time frames available:

Monday-Friday 3:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m.

Sunday-Thursday 10:30 p.m.-7:00 a.m.

Description of Duties

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The full-time Custodian is responsible for keeping assigned areas as clean as possible with the machines and equipment available, performing all duties necessary to clean and take care of any floor at the College.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

a. Responsible for keeping assigned areas neat and clean, including vacuuming, dusting, scrubbing and reconditioning all of carpeted and hard surface floors; dusting, polishing and vacuuming of all furniture, doors, walls; washing of light fixtures and windows; dumping all waste containers and recycling containers and hauling same to proper disposal areas.

Responsible for reviewing supplies available at the start of shift to ensure there are adequate supplies available to complete the normal cleaning tasks.

c. Responsible for planning and performing scheduled cleaning and intermittent daily cleaning of all restrooms as necessary or directed within assigned area. Works with other custodial staff to ensure coverage with regard to soap, towels, disinfectants as needed, as well as general cleaning of walls, floors, interior partitions, mirrors, sinks, bright work, other dispensers, etc.

d. Responsible for major set-ups/tear downs, furniture and equipment moves.

e. Responsible for making minor adjustments or repairs on assigned equipment as necessary and keeping the machines clean or as directed by the Lead/Supervisor. Including but not limited to: automatic scrubbers, polishing machines, and other motor operated equipment.

f. Responsible for locking and unlocking doors. Responsible for reporting building security issues to Police.

g. Responsible for knowing written custodial procedures including work orders, manuals, and other written directions as necessary.

h. Responsible for operating all equipment necessary to do assigned tasks (floor machines, buffers, power vacuums, etc.)

Pick up/remove paper garbage, refuse, and debris, including recycled materials throughout area to include common areas.

j. Responsible for 50FT radius outside all doors within area of responsibility (e.g. pick up cigarette butts, sweep grass, snow or dirt off steps, spread salt by hand, pick up garbage/debris, etc.).

k. Completes assigned duties in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.

l. Works an effective team member with other custodians and supervisor and communicates issues and concerns regarding assigned duties to Lead Facilities Custodian or Facilities Superintendent.

m. Responsible for following all federal, state, local, and departmental safety regulations.

n. Attends required trainings as needed.

DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:

a. In absence of other custodians, fills in at other locations as needed.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)

a. High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.

Previous experience operating and maintaining machines inherent to the job (e.g. floor scrubber, buffer) preferred. Includes keeping machines cleaned.

c. Six months of previous experience in similar work assignments desired.

d. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis required.

e. Physically capable of completing major responsibilities listed above.

f. Ability to read and write English.

g. Must be dependable and punctual in reporting to and leaving work.

h. Ability to make decisions and implement them after they are made, and fulfill requirements to complete assignments.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
