About the role:

The Sales Development Manager – Municipal Markets (SDM) works directly with municipal industry customers and Regional Sales Managers (RSMs) to advance opportunities through the sales process workflow at target accounts, deploys coaching and training (sales methodology/skills, technical, product, application) to RSMs, and plays the role of domain expert in customer-facing situations.

The SDM plays a key role in new product launches, seller productivity improvement, new seller onboarding and the sharing of knowledge across the community of front-line sellers.

This is a high impact, seasoned technical sales position critical to the successful deployment of Hach’s corporate strategies as well as leading and sustaining high levels of productivity throughout the sales team.

In this role you will:

+ Frequent engagement with Regional Sales Managers (RSMs) to develop and enhance technical aptitude of Hach’s products and related applications.

+ Train and mentor RSMs to achieve technical competency related to strategic initiatives.

+ Assist RSMs with qualifying, advancing and closing strategic and/or complex sales opportunities with the intent of developing seller’s competency. This would include performing site evaluations to uncover unmet needs and driving funnel growth at target accounts.

+ Drive growth of lab, process equipment and service sales in support of strategic solutions strategy.

+ Primary leadership role in the deployment of sales productivity programs and sales tools.

+ Training and on-boarding of new RSMs to rapidly assimilate new associates.

+ Work closely with new product commercialization teams to ensure rapid deployment of technical and commercial content to the field.

+ Proactively engage and act as voice of sales (VOS) with other departments such as, but not limited to, Product Management, Marketing, Technical Support, Training and Service.

+ Specialize in at least one product line or offering and be the expert within the SDM team.

+ Gather information on competitors, market trends, strategic opportunities and risks.

Are you qualified?

+ Knowledge of Hach’s primary applications in municipal drinking water and wastewater.

+ Detailed understanding of Hach’s sophisticated instrumentation, controls, software products and service solutions.

+ Experienced in customer-facing and problem-solving environments.

+ Able to operate independently, quickly assessing new situations, prioritizing the critical few tasks and developing strategies to meet KPIs.

+ Commercial acumen and communication skills required to navigate complex / solutions-selling situations.

+ BA, BS or MS degree required. A degree in a commercial or science related field such as Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering or equivalent is preferred.

+ 5+ years of experience in technical customer-facing roles such as, but not limited to, technical support, direct sales or service is required.

+ Knowledge of instrumentation and control technologies.

+ Must have good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Salesforce).

+ Demonstrates exemplary written and verbal communication skills.

+ Must have the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical customers. Requires proven ability to speak before large groups.

+ Must exhibit the willingness and ability to assimilate technical information quickly.

+ Ability to travel up to 50% across North America.

+ Must have and maintain a valid driver license and a driving record which is acceptable Hach Company.

The salary range for this role is $145,000 – 155,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York City, Colorado, California or Washington. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
