Job Description
Characteristics of the Job Under close supervision, performs manual work & semi-skilled mechanical tasks in the installation, repair & maintenance of water, sewer & storm water piping systems. Exercises some independent judgment in determining work methods after receiving written or oral instructions. Examples of Duties Other duties may be assigned. Perform manual labor including digging, lifting, loading, cutting & fastening. Operate dump trucks, utility trucks & other vehicles. Assist with operation of jetter/vacuum trucks for sewer cleaning. Operate hand & power tools, jackhammers, rock drills, pumps & other construction related equipment. Perform labor in the installation, repair & maintenance of utility system components. Complete collection system repairs in accordance with standard operating procedures designed to protect the integrity & public safety of the sewer system. Assist in set up of traffic control devices & shoring systems. Assist in performing leak detection, hydrant flushing, pressure testing & chlorination of new water main construction & other distribution related activities. Assist in performing inflow investigations, smoke testing, manhole inspections & camera inspections. Perform basic building & grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, painting, washing & snow removal. Required Training & Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent; experience in mechanical maintenance & underground construction work; experience in the installation, maintenance & repair of underground piping systems; or any equivalent combination of training & experience which provides the required knowledge, skills & abilities.
