Description:

This group is a team of engineers developing purchased-finished motors, inverters, DC/DC converters, and power distribution units (PDUs) for electric drivetrains. They collaborate closely with key groups across CAT, including purchasing, systems engineering, validation, legal, and prime product groups, to deliver electric drive solutions that meet the high standards expected of Caterpillar products. The main function of an electrical design engineer is to design, develop, test, and manage power electronics components for Caterpillar’s Electrification + Energy Solutions Division. A typical electrical engineer has the ability to understand and interpret program requirements, design / collaborate on component design, manage APQP requirements, and read and interpret blueprints and schematics. This role will live more in the Product Development/Supplier Facing space. Job Responsibilities: – Lead electrical component design projects through the APQP process, including requirements management, design, supplier collaboration, risk definition, and validation – Understanding program goals, translating those into their owns tasks, and executing those tasks on time and with quality – Evaluate the cost effectiveness, reliability, and safety of designs. – Estimate time and cost to complete projects. – Investigate and test vendors’ and competitors’ products. – Work with machine systems application teams to establish component requirements, architecture and electrical requirements for power electronics components / systems – Support NTI & NPI programs: communication with NTI/NPI leads; prepare and present design and gateway reviews – Play an active role in supplier evaluation, selection and development – Support electrical commissioning and testing on purchased components – Document and resolve field issues – Procurement, inventory management, and shipment of components
