Description

This position will provide specialized care for patients with dementia and related disorders and will be responsible for teaching this discipline to medical students and residents. The faculty member will develop a research program in translational sciences in the areas of dementia and neurodegenerative disease.
Examples of Duties
I. Teaching 10%
1. Presentation of lectures, seminars, conferences and rounds for residents and students (Years II, III and IV)
2. Present lectures in local, regional, national and international meetings.
3. Participate in Neurology grand rounds (attend weekly, present periodically).
4. Participate in the basic science and other didactic curricula for neurology residents.
5. Conduct clinical (bedside and otherwise) teaching of neurology and other housestaff, and medical students during outpatient care and teaching rounds on inpatient service.
II. Service (Patient Care) 45%
1. Develop and maintain a professional practice in accordance with departmental policy and the University practice plan (SIU Healthcare).
2. Develop and maintain a subspecialty practice in dementia and behavioral neurology.
3. Provide inpatient care through consultations and, when appropriate, principal care as part of two week faculty rotations 4-5 times per year; Monday through Friday on the neurology inpatient teaching service, maintaining a least two outpatient clinical per week when on service.
4. Participate in neurology weekend call schedule covering department, St. John's Hospital and Memorial Medical Center, and any related call duties and requirements. This is currently 1 in 8 weekends.
5. Conduct 4 half-days of outpatient clinical per week, except when staffing the inpatient service.

III. Administration 5%
1. Serve on university, departmental, CADRD and hospital committees as needed.
2. Participate in scheduled meetings as a member of the hospital staff at St. John's Hospital and Memorial Medical Center.
IV. Research 40%
(Time devoted to research will be raised or lowered depending on a faculty member's productivity and career goals. Time in research can/will be moved to teaching or clinical service accordingly.)
1. Participate in clinical trials related to Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.
2. Conduct translational research in dementia and behavioral neurology.
3. Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and in other suitable scientific media.
4. Present research in local, regional, national and international meetings.
 Qualifications

Board eligible or board certified in neurology and completion of at least one year of fellowship training or equivalent in dementia or behavioral neurology, including experience in translational research.
Licensure as a physician in the state of Illinois with special expertise in dementia and/or behavioral neurology.
Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
