Description
The Assistant/Associate Professor reports to the Chief of the Division of Pediatric and Fetal Cardiology, who reports to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, who reports to the Dean and Provost of the SIU Medicine, who reports to the Chancellor of SIU Carbondale.  
 Examples of Duties
Teaching
1. Participate in the development and implementation of specific undergraduate curricula in
Pediatric & Fetal Cardiology.
2. Participate directly in Pediatric & Fetal Cardiology residency training.
3. Participate in continuing education programs in Pediatric & Fetal Cardiology for both the
clinical faculty and for practicing physicians in the area.
4. Provide a role model for students and residents as a teacher and practicing Pediatric &
Fetal Cardiologist.
5. Assist the Chief of the Division of Pediatric & Fetal Cardiology in coordinating and directing
the residency program.
Service
1. Demonstrates, by actions, commitment to the mission and the behavioral standards of SIU
School of Medicine. Provides excellent service to both internal and external customers
through collaboration and partnership; compassion and respect; integrity and
accountability; diversity and inclusion; as well as continuous learning and improvement.
2. Set an example to future practitioners of highly-skilled and conscientious practice of
Pediatric & Fetal Cardiology that is balanced with self-education and other academic
activities.
3. Under the terms of SIU Medicine, provide the highest quality of patient care in the field of
pediatric cardiology. With the agreement of affiliated hospitals, assist in providing services
such as interpretation of pediatric electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and other
diagnostic services. Clinical practice includes travel to outreach clinics in central and
southern Illinois.
4. Attend national meetings and symposia in Pediatric & Fetal Cardiology and related fields for
the purpose of contribution, acquisition of additional knowledge, and as an example to
other physicians.
Research
1. Participate in research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Division.
2. Provide a role model for students and residents as an investigator.
 Qualifications
* Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations
* Graduate of accredited medical school program
* Successful completion of an approved residency program
* Board eligible in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics
* Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois or eligible for such licensure
