Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications

Overview
The College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET) invites applications for an anticipated Chairperson to lead the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISYE).

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering offers an ABET accredited B.S. in ISYE (with emphasis in Manufacturing Systems, Health Systems, and Engineering Management; a minor in Sustainable Engineering; and two certificates in lean six sigma and logistics). The department also offers an M.S. in ISYE, an M.S. in ISYE with specialization in Engineering Management, and a Ph.D. in ISYE (with four certificates in logistics, lean six sigma, quality control of manufacturing processes, and integrated manufacturing systems). The department is well established and enjoys a solid reputation for education, research, and service to the community and profession.

The department consists of 9 full-time faculty members and 2 full-time instructors, and approximately 84 undergraduates, 146 M.S., and 5 PhD students. The department has well established laboratories for Logistics, Operations Research, Ergonomics, Lean Manufacturing, and Additive Manufacturing. Strong ties with industries and national laboratories in the Northern Illinois region, including Argonne and Fermi, have helped Industrial and Systems Engineering faculty to attract externally funded research projects on a regular basis. Northern Illinois University (NIU) has about 16,000 students and is located approximately 65 miles west of Chicago. NIU's vision is to be an engine for innovation to advance social mobility; promote personal, professional, and intellectual growth; and transform the world through research, artistry, teaching and outreach. To further support that vision, the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET) offers Ph.D. degrees in electrical, mechanical, and industrial and systems engineering. In addition, the College has recently started to offer B.S. degree programs in Biomedical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering.

This administrative, teaching, and scholarly appointment will begin July 1, 2024.
