Job Description
W.W. Grainger, Inc. is seeking a Principal Applied Machine Learning Scientist with the following duties: Provide business insights from sources of information with the use of statistical and machine learning algorithms; Participate in activities such as data mining, model development, solution deployment, and performance tracking; Apply techniques such as classification, clustering, regression, and Bayesian methods to construct batch solutions; Design and develop software services aimed at improving data integrity and the quality of machine learning models; Develop data pipelines for terabyte-level data from various databases using orchestration tools; Develop performance monitoring workflows and dashboards for machine learning models; Prototype and experiment on machine learning algorithms in areas specific to recommendation systems, automatic speech recognition, and content comprehension systems; Demonstrate expertise in distributed neural network model training and parallel model inferencing frameworks; Develop, deploy, test, and maintain software services on cloud infrastructure platforms, specifically designed to support multi-million user customer bases; Oversee key data science projects, ensuring they align with the company's strategic objectives including analyzing briefs, crafting detailed progress reports, identifying potential risks, and establishing work schedules for team members to ensure the timely delivery of projects; Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, displaying strong leadership qualities to inspire team members to complete the project from ideation to production; Act as a subject matter expert for machine learning within the company, providing insights and guidance to other teams as needed; Stay updated with advancements in machine learning such as generative AI, leveraging new technologies and methodologies to drive innovation within the organization; Take a lead role in setting engineering standards and mentor junior scientists and engineers. Up to 50% remote work allowed.
