Job Summary

The Senior Pipeline Design Engineer leads Patrick's pipeline design program by leading and performing engineering design work on natural gas and petroleum pipelines, facilities, and related structures to meet client and industry specifications. The Senior Pipeline Design Engineer will train and mentor staff in the Energy Division and manage subconsultant design work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and conduct planning and design of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbon pipelines and facility piping from preliminary engineering through detailed design
  • Understand and apply client and industry engineering specifications to projects
  • Lead, develop, and mentor technical staff
  • Interact with client's management and engineering department to facilitate project efforts
  • Assist with Project management and supervisory support
  • Develop detailed engineering and project estimates
  • Lead multiple concurrent projects with one or more support engineers or CAD drafters
  • Collaborate with other disciplines for project design.
  • Understand and develop Process Flow and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Perform engineering calculations to support and direct construction deliverables (specifications, reports, drawings)
  • Performing quality control assessments and ensuring that the pipelines comply with all technical and safety regulations and advance culture of technical excellence.
  • Lead improvements project piping efficiencies by creating, updating, and implementing group specific standards/templates and researching and recommending software packages/plug-ins
  • Participate in new business development activities - developing proposals, conducting client presentations, exploring opportunities for additional revenue and projects



Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field of study from a recognized, accredited program
  • 10+ years of experience in Oil & Gas or Chemical industry
  • Professional Licensed Engineer or the ability to obtain a PE license required
  • Strong understanding of construction and engineering practices
  • Thorough understanding of Oil & Gas Industry regulations and 49 CFR Parts 195 & 192 and standards including ASME B31.4 and B31.8, API, ASTM, and NACE.
  • In-depth knowledge of technical specifications for bidding documents
  • Working knowledge of computer-aided design software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with both small and large scale projects
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in use of engineering software including CAD, hydraulic modelling, and pipe stress analysis
  • LNG, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture and Storage, and/or Renewable Natural Gas experience are preferred.


Physical Demands

Medium work: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
