College Board - Communications

Location: This is a fully remote role based out of CALIFORNIA.

Type: This is a full-time position

This position requires that the candidate selected live in California. Spanish language fluency is highly desirable.

About the Team

The Communications and Marketing (CM) team is responsible for overseeing the organization's communications and marketing efforts to grow the organization's three highest priority areas: AP, SAT Suite, and BigFuture. Communications is a close-knit, dedicated team of 25+ individuals with a successful track record of promoting the work of College Board to a wide range of audiences including students, parents, educators, policymakers, the media, member organizations, and staff.

About the Opportunity

College Board Media Relations is seeking a Stakeholder Engagement and Media Manager to develop and execute community engagement and media activities in California and other states, building greater collaboration with key audiences around College Board college readiness and career planning programs. The focus of the Stakeholder Engagement and Media Manager is the creation, execution, and evolution of a regional stakeholder engagement strategy. The objective is to ensure the right information is shared at the right time with key audiences who regularly influence and drive College Board services adoption among California school districts and education institutions.

As a Stakeholder Engagement and Media Manager, you will collaborate with two College Board teams in California who are responsible for driving customer adoption;State and District Partnerships, and Government Relations.

You will have primary responsibility for building strong relationships with legislative and advocacy groups; creating and executing a regional engagement and communications strategy for key California audiences of community groups, school districts, legislators, and policy makers. This important work will ensure College Board's California team has the talking points, fact sheets, briefing documents, and other information that will help identify, unblock, and accelerate College Board goals in California. You will continuously identify opportunities to help the California team engage widely, including among underrepresented groups.

In this role, you will:

Create, execute, and improve California engagement and media strategy (60 percent)

  • Identify opportunities for College Board to proactively share and promote college readiness and planning programs to California audiences.

  • Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (community groups, key opinion leaders, and others) and create strategies to share regular updates on key California-relevant College Board services and offerings.
  • Develop a comprehensive media list of key California outlets and influencers
  • Influence diverse teams to create and maintain relevant content for California audiences.
  • Collaborate with program strategic communications leads, program subject-matter experts, and the broader media relations team.

Support overall media relations operations, analysis, and measurement. (40 percent)

  • Develop cohesive processes for engaging California media
  • Collect meaningful metrics for media engagement and impact

About You

You have

  • 7+ years' full-time communications experience with proven experience building meaningful relationships with legislative authorities and other influential educational leaders in California
  • Experience in media relations, public affairs, and community outreach in California with proven track record in relationship building with advocacy groups, organizing community and engagement of stakeholder groups
  • You have impeccable writing skills and a passion for learning, understanding, distilling, and communicating complex information in ways that engage a wide variety of stakeholders. You can leverage multiple channels to communicate clearly and compellingly and know how to target your presentation style, written or oral, to different audiences
  • You have demonstrated experience managing complex, high stakes projects on tight deadlines, working both independently and collaboratively.
  • You are a self-starter who thrives in fast-paced environments managing challenging, complex tasks
  • You have Spanish language fluency
  • Willingness and ability to travel at least 20% of the time
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the USA

Goals:

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with key California media outlets writing about education topics of interest to College Board, including print, digital, and broadcast outlets.
  • Identify and cultivate relationship with key California education organizations in alignment with overall California strategic efforts, with an emphasis on underrepresented groups and parent organizations, with a focus on building broader awareness about College Board programs and developing resources that can serve as advocates for College Board programs.
  • Develop a set of key metrics for measuring effectiveness of engagement activities with media and key stakeholders as defined above.
  • Support College Board enterprise media strategy by ensuring California interests are accounted for and represented.
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the United States

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $85,000 to $125,000.College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.
