Our onsite Program Management Office is looking to add a Senior Civil Engineer with experience in airport projects to our design management team in support of a multi-billion-dollar airport capital Redevelopment Program in Chicago, IL. The redevelopment will occur in the middle of an active airport and the existing terminal and concourses will remain operational while the new facility is built in place in a phased approach. Reporting to the Program Design Manager, this position will provide the opportunity to be a major contributor to the growth of one of the busiest airports in the world as part of the program management team.

This position will be as part of a joint venture team, and the selected candidate will be hired by Jacobs, one of the JV partners, or a teaming partner.

Work elements will focus primarily on the field of Engineering with a focus on tunnel, utility and pavement design, design management and design analysis including:

  • Management of consultant design teams responsible for providing tunnel, pavement and utility designs
  • Providing recommendations for the technical direction of the program
  • Verifying projects comply with program and code requirements
  • Evaluation of design alternatives
  • Coordination of project design and program management teams
  • Tracking and management of costs, schedules and budgets
  • Validating, coordinating and monitoring project scope
  • Stakeholder coordination and management
  • Providing input on project delivery methods and contract packaging.
  • Identifying processes and resources for project implementation.
  • Resolution of technical issues.
  • Resource management to bring the necessary expertise to the component
  • Resolution of contractual issues
  • Monitoring and reporting of progress and issues affecting delivery
  • Presentation of details of various phases of project to the client and other stakeholders
  • Recommendation of team resources and priorities on assigned components
  • Assessment of potential program risks associated with materials, schedule, and costs
  • Application of QA/QC standards.
  • Review of work product for completeness, quality and timeliness.
  • Review of designs for adequacy of information.
  • Providing input to/support of design decisions and their tracking

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited college or university
  • 15 years of progressive experience in design or program/design management of heavy civil infrastructure components.
  • Knowledge and experience in design/management and/or construction of airport facilities and infrastructure.
  • Must have developed the following skills: general construction knowledge, leadership, oral and written communication skills, teamwork, decision making, judgment, and problem solving
  • Ability to utilize computer systems as a tool to effectively manage tasks
  • Ability to be based at the airport’s onsite office with the program management team.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Ideally you’ll also have:

  • Design or program/design management in tunnels, utilities and/or pavements.
  • Specific knowledge of airport infrastructure and its integration with unique airport systems such as baggage handling systems, automated people movers, aircraft boarding bridges, etc.
  • Professional Registration as licensed engineer, structural engineer, or architect.
