Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW

 

The Director, Institutional Outreach and Collaboration is responsible for working with the Executive Director, Institutional Accreditation to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of educational outreach and collaboration with the graduate medical education (GME) community, individuals, stakeholder organizations, and institutions focused on leadership within Sponsoring Institutions and clinical learning environments.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Works closely with the leadership of SI & CLER to develop a strategic plan for education and outreach to various stakeholders associated with GME and the clinical learning environment, which will range widely from small local and regional meetings to large national meetings, workshops, webinars, and forums.
  • Works closely with the leadership of SI & CLER to set objectives, establish formats and agendas, and identify speakers for education and outreach events.
  • Collaborates with the Department of Education to coordinate educational activities for Sponsoring Institutions and CLEs.
  • Establishes a planning group for each event, and advisory group when appropriate, and coordinates and directs meetings and teleconferences of these groups to develop and finalize content and logistics, including development of tools and materials and related continuing education (CE) credit.
  • Provides support (both planning and logistical) to collaborative efforts that convene multiple organizations toward the common goal of improving the clinical learning environment. These efforts will range widely from supporting groups of two to three organizations to supporting large collaborations involving 10 or more organizations.
  • Works closely with the leadership of SI & CLER; other internal staff members; and external consultants to develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan for educational outreach activities relating to the clinical learning environment.
  • Develops and implements individual communications and advertising plans for specific events in coordination with the Communications Department.
  • Develops content for web pages and communicates with Editorial Services and Web team to ensure proper translation to site.
  • Serve as editor for electronic and print materials related to CLE and Sponsoring Institutional educational activities, in coordination with the Communications Department.
  • Works closely with the Senior Director, Program Evaluation to support ongoing efforts to collect data for purposes of CLER Program evaluation and improvement (e.g., coordination of focus groups).
  • Works closely with the CLER Program staff to manage requests for speaking engagements and coordinate and align educational efforts involving the CLER Program (e.g. participation in workshops, lectures, etc.).
  • In collaboration with the leadership of SI & CLER, conceptualizes and coordinates institutional and CLER sessions at the ACGME Annual Educational Conference, including courses, poster sessions, and didactic sessions.
  • Maintains relationships and collaborates with other associations and professional organizations with shared educational goals; represents the ACGME at meetings of associations and professional organizations.
  • Develops and conducts ongoing evaluation of institutional outreach and collaboration, including evaluation of related educational activities.
  • Assists in preparation of the annual institutional and CLER Program budgets, as well as budgets for individual educational activities.
  • Assists Senior Director of Program Evaluation in data collection for program evaluation and improvement.   
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

 

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff. Supervisory functions include: makes hiring and termination decisions; prioritizes assignments and directs work; develops and oversees employee work schedules and approves time away from work;   provides and/or facilities employee training and development; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; determines or makes recommendations regarding new hire salaries and salary changes; and acts as liaison between employees and management. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum  

 

Master’s degree in education with expertise in adult learning principles; Five or more years of experience developing and delivering educational programs and services in clinical learning environments.  

 

Preferred  

 

Terminal degree in a relevant field of study with at least 10 years of experience learning and delivering educational programs in a health care or academic setting; at least three years’ experience with system-based thinking and health care quality improvement initiatives; three years utilizing multimedia programs to deliver educational content.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL SETS, AND ABILITIES 

 

  Knowledge of management systems and technology and their role in the design, management, and delivery of educational programs; Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work with diverse levels of professional staff members and collaborate effectively as a member/leader of a team; Excellent oral communication and writing skills.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS

 

  • This position is situated in a normal office environment with no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands.   
  • Most of the work performed is normally done in the ACGME office and/or home office with the typical physical demands of an office environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ACGME employees are working remotely until further notice. The employee must be able to work efficiently and effectively remotely.
