Civil Service Title: Medical Sonographer Technologist (U)

The individual in this position is responsible for providing sonography services and procedures for patients at all SIU ultrasound sites.

 Examples of Duties
90% of time
Clinical Patient Care Duties
A. Conduct standard sonographic exams on obstetric and gynecologic patients, both in assistance to physician and independently.
8. Prepares patients for ultrasound examination/procedure including the paperwork. This involves using the EHR to appropriately gather pertinent information.
C. Assist attending physician in the performance of obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound guided procedures and examination.
D. Completes the sonographer's portion of the imaging report with accurate information, including CPT codes for billing purposes.
E. Accurately completes Touchworks encounters for billing of ultrasound exams and procedures.
F. Assists with chart prep for the Sonography Unit.
G. Assists with cleaning of ultrasound equipment and exam rooms.
H. Assists with stocking of ultrasound supplies in exam rooms.
I. Rotates through all sites/locations covered by the Central Sonography Unit.
J. Works varied hours based on clinic needs.

5% of time
Academic/Teaching Responsibilities
A. Provides education in sonographic theory and techniques to ultrasound interns, medical students and residents.

5% of time
Research
A. Assist in collecting data and developing research projects appropriate to field.
B. Assist in implementation and collection of data for faculty-initiated research.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent; AND
Current/valid registration, certification or licensure in Medical Sonography, accreditation in sonography by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS); AND
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Condition of Employment:  Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, an out-of-state resident who is hired into this position must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of their start date.
