Senior Consultant - Materials: Metallurgy

Job Description

Responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities of client projects to ensure that goals and objectives of project(s) are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally and in coordination with other technical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform forensic analysis in industrial and litigation projects as part of a team environment
Write technical reports, communicate effectively with clients, perform research and present technical material clearly and concisely to a litigation oriented audience.
Reviews project proposals or plans to determine time frame, budget limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project and arranges for recruitment of project personnel.
Confers with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
Coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
Prepares/reviews reports and modifies schedules or plans as required.
Prepares project reports for client, or others.
Testifies in deposition or trial in litigation matters as-needed.
Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
Coordinates project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies.
Direct the work of other staff regarding any of the above responsibilities.
Education Requirements:
Masters or Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, and/or Metallurgy or related field from accredited university.
Experience Requirements:
Experience and familiarity with metallurgical/materials laboratory procedures, testing and capable of directing staff in performing high quality lab work.
Experience in material failure analysis with a focus on metallurgy, materials science or mechanics of materials.
Knowledge of fractography and metallography/materialographic techniques
Experience in scanning electron microscopy with X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopic analysis capability and/or ability to direct staff in performing.
Experience and/or knowledge of analytical techniques related to failure of metals, alloys, composites, polymers and glasses.
Experience or exposure to insurance claims and/or product liability matters
Litigation consultation and interaction with attorneys, adjusters and paralegals
Deposition and trial experience as an expert witness, or a willingness to become a testifying subject matter expert
Excellent technical (metallurgical/materials) and critical thinking skills.
Skills Required:
Excellent written and oral communication skills
A team player actively engaging others in accomplishing project work and office goals both within their home office as well as across offices and other technical disciplines throughout ESI.
Ability and desire to market ESI and grow the materials failure analysis specialty in the local and national markets.
Ability and desire to drive toward eventually become a principal consultant within the firm.
Certifications:
Professional Engineer preferred
CWI, CQE, API certifications are a plus
Computer Skills Required:
Intermediate/advanced skills in Excel
Intermediate/advanced skills Word

Compensation will be made up of a competitive base salary as well as bonus potential determined by your own individual performance and the performance of the organization overall.
