In support of this mission, the System Administrator – Security & Patch Management is responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of the information technology infrastructure which requires working with workstations, servers, switches, storage, software, and other technologies to support the organization. The Systems Administrator – Security & Patch Management focuses on patching and security remediation but also assists with overall systems administration which requires proficiency in several disciplines.

 

Essential Job Functions

The System Administrator – Security & Patch Management must maintain and continually improve the environment to provide the highest levels of service to the user base. The Systems Administrator – Security & Patch Management will be required to assess and report on current software versions, perform upgrades, as well as test and verify upgrades.

The Systems Administrator works both individually and in teams to maintain the operation of various sites. Business operation demands 24/7/365 continuous up time so this individual must be able to perform overtime when needed including holidays and weekends. Continuously changing software and hardware platforms require ongoing training and self-directed learning to maintain skill sets. Based on the functions of the Systems Administrator - Security & Patch Management position the incumbent will have Administrative level rights, access to sensitive and confidential information, and must always exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Performs daily administrative maintenance tasks on servers and all other infrastructure equipment including, but not limited to:
    • Performs system patching and security remediation
    • Maintains Active Directory, Group Policy, and security permissions
    • Maintains core systems including but not limited to, WSUS, SCCM, and Intune 
    • Assists with backups of all systems
    • Creates and maintains server and systems documentation
    • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware including updates and patches to drivers, bios, and firmware
    • Provides tracking and reporting on remediation efforts
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Assists with help desk tickets and end-user support when required.
  • Maintains proficiency within the IT industry via:
    • Maintaining certifications
    • Performs self-study to keep abreast of new software and hardware technologies 
  • Attends technical conferences and seminars
  • Performs and assists with other departmental duties as required including project work or long-term items
