Kelly Science has an immediate opening for a R&D Food Chemist for our growing client near Bridgeview, IL

Salary: $80,000 to $100,000
Sign-on Bonus for Relocation
Key Responsibilities:
+ Drive R&D projects by conducting research, formulation, and product development studies with a high level of independence.
+ Analyze research and testing data, translating findings into comprehensive reports for R&D and other departments.
+ Collaborate with sales and marketing teams in concept development, prototype evaluation, label claims, and final product selection.
+ Offer scientific insights, advice, and responses to customer inquiries, departments, and project stakeholders.
+ Maintain clear communication on project updates using internal project management tools.
+ Prepare and provide samples for customer testing and approval.
+ Perform performance tests, shelf stability tests, and monitoring.
+ Maintain meticulous records of R&D tests, trials, and formulations.
+ Adapt and reformulate products and manufacturing processes as required due to regulatory changes or opportunities.
+ Test and qualify new raw ingredients and components in collaboration with Logistics and Purchasing.
+ Ensure adherence to SQF, Food Safety, Food Defense, Product Quality, GMP, Allergen Control, Cleaning and Sanitation, and Company Safety policies.
+ Proactively identify and address food safety issues.
+ Assist in investigative activities to resolve QA problems, customer complaints, and technical issues.
+ Utilize inventory management tools (SAP) to support the product development process.
+ Engage in continuous learning through company-provided training, seminars, and third-party resources.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, Nutrition).
+ 5-7 years of experience in R&D, Product Development, QA/QC, or Laboratory Testing.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
+ Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with internal stakeholders and external customers.
+ Background in food oil chemistry, baking applications, or flavoring is highly desirable.
Additional Information: The R&D Food Chemist will primarily focus on new product formulation, performance evaluation, raw material selection and qualification, sales sample preparation, technology transfer, and troubleshooting technical issues. Strong documentation skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers are essential.
