MINIMUM PAY RATE:$17.88 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY
The Student Advising Center Office Assistant provides a wide variety of clerical duties requiring professional, high-quality customer service skills, good judgment, and confidentiality. Provides support for the Student Advising Center as well as students and other college personnel. Demonstrates considerable judgement, initiative, and independent action in establishing or adapting work procedures to new situations.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supports the daily operations of the front desk area in the Student Advising Center. Provide high quality customer service welcoming and scheduling students for appointments; assists students with various technologies in the resource area.
2. Receive and direct visitors, handle phone calls, make appointments, relay messages, and provide requested information to prospective and current students. Inform and educate students on departmental and college policies and procedures.
3. Check departmental email and voicemail regularly and respond to inquiries and/or forward to appropriate staff members.
4. Work collaboratively with other departments and/or vendors. Be willing to be cross-trained to perform related clerical tasks.
5. Participate in departmental projects and activities.
6. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. One (1) year of clerical support experience.
3. Flexible availability between 8:00am - 6:00pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:00am - 4:30pm Fridays during fall and spring semesters, closed on Fridays during summer; with the possibility of an occasional Saturday.
4. Work location flexibility required, as coverages will be expected at the Romeoville Campus.
5. Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, initiative, and event planning skills.
6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word and Excel specifically) and current office procedures.
7. Ability to handle multiple tasks, responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
8. Adhere to and maintain confidentiality.
9. Strong interpersonal communication skills and willingness to work cooperatively with a diverse population.
10. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate's degree.
2. Knowledge of JJC procedures and policies
3. Knowledge of JJC internal systems such as Colleague/Datatel, Student Planning Module, Navigate, Ring Central, and scanning software.
4. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
5. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Normal office physical demands.
2. Ability to travel between campus locations and to and from community events.
3. Availability to work some evenings and weekends.

WORKING CONDITIONS
* Duties are performed indoors in the usual office environment.
