Job Summary:
The Director of Application Development & Operations – Enterprise Systems reports to the AVP of Administrative Systems and is responsible for the enterprise systems outside of the three PeopleSoft systems (HR, Student, Finance). This role’s responsibilities include leading and supporting the implementation, operations, production support, portfolio management, enhancements and project activities for these applications. The director manages a team of twenty-three developers, architects and project managers organized into several development teams. The Director is responsible for the resource management, professional development and coaching associated with these resources. The Director must also oversee departmental collaboration with help desk and infrastructure teams as well as distributed IT units. Additional activities including cross-unit collaboration, strategy development and execution, budget planning and management are required.
Specific Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision. Leads and motivates the members of unit in providing services to Northwestern University’s business units and distributed IT units:
- Leads the transformation from on-premises application systems to cloud application systems ensuring the staff is trained and knowledgeable in the new skill sets and modes of operation while working closely with vendors and staying informed on best practices in higher education.
- Optimizes the production of the workforce through team assignments and project assignments.
- Provides vision, motivation, tactical guidance, and mentorship to the team.
- Continuously drives innovation, adoption of modern technologies, and process automation.
- Ensures staff receive appropriate training and opportunities for career growth.
