Job Description
This position would support both clinical and basic research lab efforts of the Fertility & Hormone Preservation & Restoration (FHPR) program. The FHPR program has a clinical lab within Lurie Children's that cryopreserves gonadal tissue for patients who have diseases or treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiation, that would contribute to infertility. This technician would be trained in processing tissue for long-term storage and would support related clinical research efforts. This technician would also support the basic research lab on NIH-funded studies for developing methods that improve our understanding and development of fertility preservation and restoration technologies. The Laronda Lab has established plans to enhance diverse perspectives through outreach programs, including one for Chicago Public School teachers. This position would include organizing and managing these outreach efforts. The hire would also follow lab compliance with all associated rules and regulations.
Additionally, the hire would:
Following protocols, designs and sets-up and conducts basic experiments.
Analyzes and troubleshoots protocols and data obtained from individual experiments and recommends alternatives and suggestions to improve processes, validity and accuracy.
Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting and entering data. Manipulates, interprets and/or presents results.
Prepares charts and graphs for presentations and publications.
Performs scientific literature searches in support of research.
Completes portions of grant applications, manuscripts and publications.
Tracks and summarizes lab supply expenses. Verifies accuracy of invoices
Orders and maintains inventory of reagent, mice and/or lab supplies.
Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Bachelor's Degree required.
2. One to two years laboratory experience required. Specific experience with bovine or human ovary processing and culture preferred.
3. The candidate will be skilled in designing and executing experiments and will be a good lab steward.
4. The candidate will be diligent with documentation, detail oriented and well organized.
5. The candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively, works independently and under supervision, and function as a research team member.
