Description
Non-Invasive Clinical Nurse:
Flexible schedule, (4) 10hr shifts, no nights, no weekends, no holidays, no call
Procedural nursing inTransesophageal echocardiograms, Cardioversions,Stress Tests, and Nuclear Stress Tests.
Team-driven patient care working closely with cardiology fellows, cardiology attendings, sonographers,exercise physiologists,nuclear techs, and management
Transesophageal Echocardiograms
Chart review of inpatients and outpatients,verifying within normal lab values prior to procedures
Communication with inpatient bedside nurses, ordering providers, and patient transport
Procedural prep including IV placement, vital signs, labs
Intra-procedural moderate sedation administration, vital signs monitoring, airway management.
Post-procedural hand off
**Some of these procedures are done with anesthesia and are followed up with a cardioversion. RN intra-procedural responsibilities change slightly with team needs**
Dobutamine Stress Tests
Chart review of inpatients and outpatients,verifying within normal lab values prior to testing
Procedural prep including patient assessment, explaining procedure to patient, and IV placement
Intra-procedural medication titration, vital sign monitoring, continued patient assessment during and after medication administration. Patient receives medication while continuous EKG is monitored by anexercise physiologistand echo is performed by a sonographer.
Nuclear Stress Tests:
Chart review of inpatients and outpatients. Scheduling inpatients
Preprocedural prep including patient assessment, explaining procedure to patient, and IV placement. RN is also responsible for calling outpatients 2 days prior to schedule with instructions.
Intra-procedural vasodilator medication administration, vital signs monitoring, continued patient assessment after medication. Patient receives medication while continued EKG is monitored by an electrophysiologist and radioactive isotope administration by a nuclear tech. This procedure can be performed in an open stress bay or in a PET scanner.

Based on the NMH framework for practice, the registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of clinically competent, evidence-based care for an assigned group of patients that includes diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing, the Code of Ethics, and the Nursing Social Policy Statement.
