Job Description

Job Title:    Rack Loader/Rack Unloader

Department:    JBC – Erlanger Plant

GENERAL SUMMARY:    

Performs functions of loading bread from conveyors to racks for cooling; or unloads bread from racks to conveyors for making bread crumbs. 
 
REPRESENTATIVE FUNCTIONS:

Loader

1.    Places empty cart in place to load hot loaves of bread.

2.    Lifts hot 22-pound loaves of bread from conveyor and places it on the racks.  There are 8 racks (low to high) to a cart, which hold 6 loaves of bread each.  

3.    Pushes and/or pulls full rack to its appropriate staling location; and pushes and/or pulls another empty cart in place to load.

Unloader

4.    Places full cart in place to unload cool loaves of bread.

5.    Lifts cool 22-pound loaves of bread from the racks, breaks them in two; and place bread on a conveyor to be crumbled.

6.      Pushes and/or pulls empty rack to its appropriate location for cleaning; and pushes and/or pulls another full cart in place to unload.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

Both Roles

7.      Rotates with each other and the JBC Bagger throughout the shift to avoid wear on muscles.
 
 8.    Monitor the grinder machine to ensure that any clogs are immediately cleared.

9.    Performs required GMP and cleaning requirements during the shift.

10.    Other duties as assigned.
 


GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the above functions satisfactorily.  The required levels of knowledge, skill and ability are described in greater detail in the following sections.

 

 


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must have a high school diploma or GED and must complete all on the job training.  Must attend HACCP, GMP, and other training sessions and successfully pass HACCP and GMP session quizzes (YEARLY REFRESHER REQUIRED).


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to receive thorough instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract numbers to verify loaves to a rack and/or bags to a pallet.  Ability to tell time and properly record time related data.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to receive instructions.  Must understand when it is authorized to shut the line down; and/or ask for help.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to comfortably operate manufacturing equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.  While performing the day to day tasks of this job the employee will stand for long periods of time while using hands and arms to handle bread and associated carts.  The employee will regularly lift, bend, push, and pull .  The employee will be regularly required to talk and listen to others.  The employee will be regularly required to lift and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and push carts in excess of 1200 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.   

The job is performed in a moderately noisy to loud environment with slight exposure to airborne particles.  The employee will be in the presence of large operating machinery including forklifts. 

Temperature tends to vary with the season.
