Job Summary
The Coordinator of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will lead initiatives related to the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the Carle Illinois College of Medicine (CI MED). The position partners with other administrative units and departments in the college and across campus to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff at CI MED. The position will be involved executing effective strategies, programs, and initiatives that include recruitment and retention, outreach, and training, research, and collegiate culture plan within CI MED.

Duties & Responsibilities

Operational Management

• In collaboration with the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer (CDEIO), lead initiatives or programs to facilitate a culture of inclusivity and belonging.

• Leading and supporting data collection and analysis/evaluation of climate, programs, or initiatives.

• Design, implement, and assess training, educational sessions, and materials.

• Lead efforts to implement and oversee new and existing pathway programs:

▪ Manage program design/experience, planning and coordination.

▪ Partner w Student Affairs to identify/develop and strengthen pathways leading to medical school recruitment.

• In collaboration, assist with LCME accreditation preparation and the data collection process.

• In collaboration with Faculty Affairs and Chief of Staff:

▪ Assist with faculty/staff professional development activities.

▪ Provide support to faculty/staff affinity groups.

• In collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs:

▪ Assist with Pre-health career advising.

▪ Attend and support Carle Illinois recruitment events as directed.

▪ Provide support to medical student organizations.

Communication/Collaboration

• Develop and grow retention/community building initiatives for students, faculty, staff to improve inclusion and belonging within Carle Illinois

• Participate in and/or lead Carle Illinois committees/subcommittees that relate to diversity, equity and inclusion, including wellbeing, culture, climate, recruitment, retention.

• Collaborate with Carle Illinois units and campus DEI offices to promote and enhance DEI programs and initiatives in the college.

• In collaboration with Carle Illinois Human Resources, the academic departments, and the Office of Faculty Affairs support efforts to implement DEI best practices in recruitment and onboarding activities.

• Develop opportunities to enhance community partnerships to enhance recruitment and community partnerships to increase Carle Illinois presence. Support Carle Illinois' commitment to address social determinants of health and reduce health disparities.

Other
• Occasional travel may be required.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Participate in professional development activities.

• Foster a culture of diversity and inclusion within the college, the university, the community and across all outreach activities and efforts.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships; work cooperatively and collegially with others in a manner consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect; support and engage in equal opportunity principles, rules, and regulations.

• Champion positive inter-professional relationships bridging the College's public-private organization and missions.

Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor's degree in education, Public Policy, Communication, or related fields.

•Three (3) years of work experience in developing and leading DEI initiatives.

•Demonstrated experience facilitating DEI trainings and workshops.

•Demonstrated experience in program evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications

•Master's degree in Education, Public Policy, Communication, or related degree fields.

•Certified Diversity Professional (CDE) or equivalent credential

•Experience in higher education or health care.

•Demonstrated understanding of academic procedures related to pathway programs, academic advising, and professional development.

•Demonstrated experience with data analysis and strategic planning and designing DEI related trainings and workshops.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

• Proficient with computer and software applications

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 5/6/2024. Salary range $55,000 to $70,000 and is commensurate with experience.
