Job Summary:

Caterpillar’s Advanced Materials Technology Department is currently seeking an experienced Engineer focused on metallurgical product development and production support. In this role you will have an opportunity to analyze a wide variety of components providing design support and development on a diverse customer portfolio supporting products produced at the Decatur manufacturing facility.

Implements and improves testing, development and validation techniques, processes, tooling, and machinery to maximize product quality.

Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited college or university

What You Will Do:

+ Lead material analysis investigations

+ Develop metallurgical testing plans and analyze test results

+ Create technical reports and/or procedures

+ Effectively communicate results to our internal customers

+ Provide technical support to metallurgical laboratory operations personnel.

+ Support Met Lab process controls and compliance for certifications and audits.

+ Resolving issues regarding the design or manufacturing. Ensuring design acceptance and manufacturing readiness.

+ Participating in the adoption of new technologies and processes (automation, robotics, computer aided manufacturing software, etc.) to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction and quality improvement.

+ Planning and improving testing procedures and operations to make the test more reliable, efficient and cost-effective.

+ Monitoring results, machine and process capabilities and performance reliability.

+ Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum or equivalent experience working in an Engineering function.

Technical Excellence:

- Has the ability to work multiple projects concurrently

- Possesses experience in creating technical reports, publications and/or procedures.

- Has experience with Heat Treatment Processes, component design and/or supporting manufacturing operations

- Has prior Failure Analysis experience with Ferrous and Non-Ferrous materials, as well as production heat treat support experience

- Has an advanced materials or metallurgical engineering degree (graduate studies)

The location for this position is Decatur, IL.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position

This position will require less than 10% travel.
