Position
 Bus Driver
 
Summary:
The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of park district patrons between facilities, to special events or to trip destinations. Hours are flexible and usually under 20 per week. 
 
Supervisor:
The Program Instructor reports to the Recreation Coordinator, Recreation Supervisor, Assistant Superintendent of Recreation, Superintendent of Recreation, and the Executive Director.
 
Qualifications:
The Bus Driver must be at least 18 years of age, must possess a CDL and passenger endorsement and have a clean driving record as well as criminal background clearance, and current CPR and First Aid certifications. The park district is looking for a candidate that has good communication skills, customer service and has flexibility in their schedule.
 
Essential Functions:

  1. Implement appropriate park operations procedures in accordance with District policy related to area of responsibility
  2. Communicate operation specifics to Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor according to requirements; communicate matters of importance to Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor in a timely manner
  3. Complete assigned projects and tasks in a timely manner
  4. Assist with implementation of scheduled program events
  5. Cooperate with and provide assistance to all District staff and perform dependent responsibilities as a team member; work effectively in cross-over tasks or group projects
  6. Implement customer service procedures as applicable; recommend additional procedures as necessary
  7. Purchase fuel and supplies in accordance with District policy and procedures
  8. Must be able to be stand or sit for extended periods throughout the workday
  9. Must be able to drive District vehicles and operate mechanized machinery (valid Illinois Driver’s license) Maintain current CPR and Standard First Aid certifications.
  10. Administer First Aid according to the Park District’s Communicable Disease Policy.
  11. Understand the Park District’s safety procedures and requirements. This includes completion and follow-through on all accident reports, emergency safety procedures, reporting of hazardous equipment, facilities, or conditions and the conduct of any employees under their supervision. Report all incidents and potential hazards to the safety committee as soon as possible.

 Marginal Functions:

  1. Attend in-service trainings and meetings as directed by Supervisor.
  2. Assist all employees of the Park District as needed.

 Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to operate Park District vehicles.
  2. Handling Park District materials up to 50 pounds. Assistance provided when necessary.

 Cognitive Considerations:

  1. Resolve differences and problems that arise with patrons and work together with employees.
  2. The Bus Driver must exhibit good problem solving ability and good judgment in keeping with the mission of the Park District.
  3. May be exposed to elements when assisting workers with outdoor functions. Most activities are performed indoors; these conditions include lighting and temperature.
