Overview

RES is accepting applications for a Mid-Level Restoration Ecology Scientist for our Chicago, IL, Brodhead, WI or Milwaukee, WI.

The mission: Reporting to the Regional Sciences Manager, this position will support our clients and operations teams with knowledgeable ecological consulting and high-quality project delivery across a variety of ecosystem restoration and mitigation projects. The Scientist will need knowledge and experience in a wide range of ecologically related disciplines such as soils, water, plants, animals, and restoration, as well as the regulatory environment of mitigation projects. Occasional travel is expected with some overnight stays; field work is expected around 30% of your time.



Responsibilities

Field Assessments: You'll be conducting various field assessments, such as wetland delineations, stream assessments, mitigation monitoring, feasibility assessments of potential restoration projects, endangered species and habitat surveys, and vegetation assessments.

Data Collection and Analysis: Your role involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting field data according to industry standards.

Report Preparation and Regulatory Understanding: You'll be responsible for preparing ecological studies, scientific reports, restoration plans, natural resources assessments, and management plans. Additionally, a solid understanding of state and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes, particularly related to mitigation and threatened/endangered species laws, is crucial.

Client Relations: Participation in business development activities, including proposal preparation, and fostering new opportunities by connecting with new and existing clients will be part of your role. Establishing and promoting excellent working relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and conservation groups are key aspects.

Administrative Tasks: Maintaining accurate records of time and expenses in the company's information management system, preparing invoices, adhering to company SOPs, and fulfilling other administrative requirements are part of the job. You'll also contribute to process improvement for data gathering, assessments and analysis, reporting, team coordination, and project management.

Qualifications

We would like to talk to you if you have many of the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in ecology or related field, such as wetland science, botany, wildlife biology,
  • 5-7 years of experience in ecological profession
  • Advanced knowledge of local and regional flora, fauna, and ecological systems. Demonstrated ecological identification skills, including plants, animals, ecological communities, wetlands, soils, and others as necessary.
  • Experience with GPS units,
