Manager Manufacturing Engineering

The Mapleton Foundry is one of the largest in the United States and home to the largest core making machine in the world! Working at the foundry is hard work that demands focus and safety, quality, and commitment to helping our customers build a better world. We are looking for a dynamic leader who can manage manufacturing engineering expertise and provide guidance to establish the necessary requirements for cost effective machining and assembly processes. This role serves the Advanced Planning Engineering Team with responsibilities for capital investment, plant layouts, machine moves, and new equipment installations.

Responsibilities

+ Delivering leadership, guidance, and vision for the Advanced Planning Team serving Mapleton Machining and Assembly.

+ Engaging with product development leaders on New Product Introduction (NPI) future strategies while aligning facility-wide safety initiatives.

+ Driving significant improvement opportunities and coordinating modern technology into the facility architecture, in cadence with other parallel investments.

+ Providing the expertise for implementing large investments leveraging new capital introduction processes (NCI) with accountability including forecasting and capital governance.

Degree Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience desired

Experience Requirement:

Demonstrated experience in managing individual contributors and performing large capital investments in manufacturing facilities.

Capital Planning & Management: Knowledge of tools, approaches and practices to develop and lead the implementation of large-scale capital projects. Leads in interpreting and applying safety into manufacturing processes.

- Manages staff with responsibility to deadlines and budgets.

- Develops and manages large capital / expense budgets associated with design, procurement and installation for new manufacturing equipment.

- Ensures the fulfillment of contracts and scope of work.

- Compares planned budgets vs. actual expenditures, identifies, reports, and explains variances.

- Evaluates past business decisions and associated budgetary considerations and impact.

Critical Thinking & Communicating for Impact: Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment; effective listening and communication, demonstrating influence where required.

Level Extensive Experience:

- Differentiates assumptions, perspectives, and historical frameworks.

- Evaluates past decisions for insights to improve decision-making process.

- Assesses and validates decision options and predicts their potential impact.

- Advises others in analyzing and synthesizing relevant data and assessing alternatives.

- Uses effective decision-making approaches such as consultative, command, or consensus.

- Deals effectively with customers, leaders and support staff to resolve problems

Manufacturing Equipment & Processes: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical, controls, and logistics equipment used in modern machining and assembly; history of integrating and automating these systems into production.

Level Extensive Experience:

- Participates in evaluation and selection of new equipment.

- Facilitates the coordination and integration of multi-vendor sourcing decisions.

- Defines overall machine performance standards; evaluates KPIs.

- Plans, tests and implements changes to manufacturing infrastructure and environment.

- Mentors others in monitoring safety performance and assuring investments meet company and industry objectives.

Judgment and Decision Making: Ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.

- Secures commitment for decisions by communicating clearly and credibly to stakeholders.

- Delegates responsibility for shaping plans through which decisions are executed.

- Monitors execution of decisions to ensure consistency with original intention.

Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into production and management processes.

- Defines and executes a strategic lean implementation plan.

- Mentors others on the organizational and cultural transformation needed for effective lean implementation.

- Oversees the implementation of mechanisms for sustaining a culture for lean.
