PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Project Engineer provides for plant performance through various manufacturing project assignments. Supports the Environmental, Health & Safety, Continuous Improvement, Operation and Maintenance groups on projects and assists the Maintenance Manager on overall plant capital management. This position is intended to provide bench-strength staff leadership in all areas of manufacturing. The primary focus of this position is to improve plant performance through the execution of effective process application solutions across many engineering disciplines.

This position has been identified as a "Safety Sensitive" position that includes duties that pose a higher risk of injury to either the employee or others if under the influence of drugs or alcohol. As a result, employees in these positions are required to submit to a full panel drug screen that includes testing for marijuana. Owens Corning Danville maintains a zero-tolerance policy that includes random drug and alcohol screenings in addition to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and post-accident.


JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors in Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing)
0-5 years relevant project management skills and engineering experience

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Experience in continuous process manufacturing environment
Experience with heavy industrial equipment
Experience in the design and development of automated applications
Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies such as 6 Sigma and LEAN


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
The employee should hold the following abilities:

Must be able to read, write, and speak English
Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions
Must possess strong communication and organizational skills
Must be detail oriented and can multi-task
Must have strong internal and external customer service skills
Must work well in a team environment
Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs
Engineering skills required include knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and industrial controls
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Self-reliant; proven ability to work independently and coordinate one's work with a team
A proven team player with ability to interact with all levels of management, coworkers, and vendors
Ability to apply failure analysis techniques and solutions
Troubleshooting problems associated with manufacturing processes
Ability to use instrumentation in the field for measurement of equipment
Designing and planning equipment layout
AutoCAD and CMMS experience a plus


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Ability to be contacted on night or weekends for phone support.
Completes engineering project by organizing and controlling project elements.
Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans and conferring with management.
Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements, assigning personnel to phases and elements, and reviewing bids from contractors.
Coordinate proper training for maintenance and production workers to implement operating procedures, safety protocols and to avoid system malfunctions.
Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends, then recommend actions.
Complete process upset report and failure analysis with recommendations and solution implementation. Assist with decision making during an upset to mitigate the impact.
Oversee installation to see that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
Write operating and house-keeping instructions to establish best practices.
Participate in training sessions, seminars, and continuing education to stay abreast of new technical developments.
Prepare cost analysis for integrating new machinery and equipment into the manufacturing process.
Continually learn new skills and technology to maintain equipment.
