The Senior Software Engineer codes software applications based on business requirements. The Senior Software Engineer work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

The Senior Software Engineer standardizes the quality assurance procedure for software. Oversees testing and debugging and develops fixes. Researches complaints and makes necessary adjustments and/or recommendations to resolve complex software related issues. Begins to influence department’s strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Lead the development of applications utilizing COBOL, DB2, JCL, REXX and other relevant mainframe technologies. Design, code, test and implement efficient and scalable solutions to meet business requirements.

Architect and develop both online and batch systems, ensuring seamless integration and efficient processing of data. Utilize tools such as ISPF workbench and IzWS for development and maintenance tasks.

Apply knowledge of the Scaled Agile Framework methodologies to drive adoption of agile practices within the mainframe development team. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with business objectives and deliverables.

Utilize expertise in data protection tools to ensure the security and integrity of sensitive information within mainframe applications. Implement encryption, access controls, other security measures to safeguard data assets. Any experience with industry standard tools for Data protection like Protegrity would be a plus.

Identify opportunities for performance optimization within mainframe applications. Analyze system performance metrics and fine tune code and configurations to enhance efficiency and throughput.

Provide guidance and mentorship to other Software Engineers within the Mainframe development team. Share best practices, conduct code reviews, and facilitate knowledge transfer to foster a culture of continuous learning and development.

Collaborative effectively with the cross functional teams including Product Owners, quality assurance engineers and application teams to ensure successful project delivery. Communicate project status, risks and dependencies in clear and concise manner.

Maintain accurate documentation of design specifications, code changes and implementation details in accordance with organizational standards and compliance requirements.

Stay updated on merging technologies, industry trends and best practices related to mainframe development. Contribute to process improvements and innovation initiatives to drive efficiency and quality in software development practices.

Required Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.

+ 5+ years’ experience in mainframe development and/or architecture (COBOL, DB2, JCL, REXX)

+ 5 or more years of experience designing, developing, and testing of software applications and/or infrastructure.

+ Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Master’s Degree

+ Knowledge of data protection in test/production environments.

Work-At-Home Requirements

+ WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.

+ A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25×10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.

+ Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.

+ A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$104,800 – $144,300 per yearThis job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
