Solve complex problems related to infrastructure cloud services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence. Design, write, and deploy software to improve the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Oracle products and services. Design and develop designs, architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale distributed systems. Facilitate service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis, and system tuning. Work with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team on the shared full stack ownership of a collection of services and/or technology areas. Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services. Responsible for the design and delivery of the mission critical stack, with focus on security, resiliency, scale, and performance. Authority for end-to-end performance and operability. Partner with development teams in defining and implementing improvements in service architecture. Articulate technical characteristics of services and technology areas and guide Development Teams to engineer and add premier capabilities to the Oracle Cloud service portfolio. Understand and communicate the scale, capacity, security, performance attributes, and requirements of the service and technology stack. Demonstrate clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles. Act as ultimate escalation point for complex or critical issues that have not yet been documented as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Utilize a deep understanding of service topology and their dependencies required to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations. Understand and explain the affect of product architecture decisions on distributed systems. Professional curiosity and a desire to a develop deep understanding of services and technologies. A BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent. Identifies solutions to knowledge of server hardware and software configuration, networking, standard internet services, scripting languages, cloud computing patterns, technology security and compliance. Experience running large scale customer facing web services. Identifies solutions to understanding of load balancing technologies and experience with development in programming languages, databases and big data stores, and container technologies. Work involves defining and documenting technical architecture of complex and highly scalable products. A minimum of 5+ years experience of running large scale customer facing web services.

We are looking for seasoned sire reliability engineer to help build distributed and scalable services. You should have curiosity to learn more with can do attitude. You should be able to solve complex problems by choosing speed and making incremental changes or enhancements.

What are the biggest challenges for the team?

Scalability, performance and availability. The growth of the business is driving us to improve the ability of our systems to scale out and handle traffic patterns that are several orders of magnitude greater than what we can support today. This is generating a lot of data. As we operate our services and serve more customers, we need the ability to quickly and accurately find log and performance information. Ideally, this would be self-service for our customers.

We understand that software is living and needs investment. The challenge is making the right trade-offs, communicating decisions to all parties, and streamlined execution.

Qualifications

+ 5+ years of experience within software development, automation for scalable and reliable distributed systems.

+ Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems.

+ Hands-on experience building and operating entire systems or services

+ Strong hands-on development experience on Terraform, Ansible Playbooks etc.

+ Strong knowledge of industry test frameworks and have hands-on test automation experience using Python, Bash, Perl or any scripting language

+ Experience with Cloud Native Development and Architecture

+ Experience driving security reviews, documentation and working with stakeholders during the release process.

+ Able to effectively communicate technical ideas verbally and in writing (technical proposals, design specs, architecture diagrams and presentations)

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience collaborating on architecture of a system / service

· Previous work operating critical server based systems

· Demonstrated ability to make nuanced trade-offs designing for security, concurrency, availability, performance, scalability and change.

US: Hiring Range: from $79,000 to $158,200 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
