Description:

Responsible for the procurement of formulary, non-formulary pharmaceuticals and supplies for the Department of Hospital Pharmacy Services in the most proficient and cost-efficient methods in compliance with the Pharmacy Practice Act of Illinois, and Statues of the University of Illinois.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for the purchasing of pharmaceuticals, supplies, equipment, and services for Hospital Pharmacy Services; including non-regular product purchases and unique items.
Prepares and solicits quotations, prepares bids specifications, obtains formal and informal quotations, researches pricing, assists with evaluation of and recommendation of bid awards, and facilitates contract awards and purchase orders; works closely with University purchasing, contracts, and payables.
Assist clinical faculty with cost containment recommendations through the evaluation of therapeutic trends.
Maintaining and tracking drug shortages, secures alternative sources for drug supplies when current vendors are unable to meet demand.
Develops purchasing analysis and reporting tools to provide reports relating to Hospital Pharmacy purchasing.
Analyzes requests for extensions or amendments to existing contracts and makes recommendations of approval or alternative solutions to management; participates in planning and negotiating sessions with suppliers and departments.
Reconciles invoicing of products and services, investigates complaints from departments and vendors/contractors and problems arising from the procurement of commodities; determines an appropriate action to resolve vendor/contractor grievances and claims against suppliers.
Assists with reviews, analysis, and participates in the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures
Establish and maintain par levels for drug inventory, including monitoring of outdated items, drug returns for credits, evaluating inventory returns, non-formulary drug tracking, and inventory control.
Analyzes inventory levels to increase inventory turns and reduce waste.
Serve as a liaison for borrow/loan of pharmaceuticals to hospitals in the vicinity.
Supervises and/or oversees pharmacy stores staff and students; evaluates job performance and recommends personnel actions to leadership.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the categories below of which one (1) year (12 months) must be actual work experience:

A. Work experience performing duties comparable to those performed at the Procurement Officer level of this series or in positions of comparable responsibility
