Position Summary// This position is for a Senior Engineering Technician who will perform work that is mechanical, electrical, or metrology in nature to support R&D development and verification efforts. This is a specialist level position where the individual is a specialist on complex technical and business matters. Work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. Essential Duties & Responsibilities · Lead and perform product/component testing and inspection of significant scope or degree of difficulty. · Hands on assembly and testing of electro-mechanical hardware. · Provide electrical engineering support with testing analog and digital circuits using various lab equipment. · Ability to setup, operate, and monitor medical devices per the System Operator Manual. · Provides leadership and coordination for work of significant complexity for the development, documentation, and validation of test methods. · Execute test plans and collect data as requested by the engineering staff. This includes utilizing the following specialized lab equipment: o Instron o Thermal chamber o Sound chamber o Battery tester o EMC test equipment · Interfaces with internal customers in support of performed work. Actively participates and contributes to decision making process of significant impact to overall projects. · Collects data and performs data entry with integrity. · Assists in developing training, PWI’s (procude work instructions), SOP’s (standard operating procedures), and best practices related to medical device development. · Ensure the R&D Engineering lab complies to safety standards. · Leads and identifies test equipment calibration and maintenance. · Leads and identifies work related to process improvements in the lab. · Assist in gathering budgetary information and performance metrics for lab management. · Assist in people management including training, team member development, and hiring interviews. · Issue and receive PO’s for prototyping material and submit expense reports as needed. · Work on special projects as assigned. * * * * * * Knowledge & Skills · Ability to provide leadership for projects of limited scope and impact or portions of a major project. Ability to supervise lower level employees. · Demonstrated technical expertise and application of mechanical, electrical, or metrology theory related to medical devices and practice is required. · Strong verbal and written communication skills. · Able to work well with others. · Strong technical, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills. · Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and documentation. · Excellent practical knowledge of EE lab equipment, such as digital multi-meters, programmable power supplies, signal generators, data logging equipment, as well as specialized battery and EMC test tools. · Experience soldering electrical components. · Experience with test software (LabView, Python, etc.). Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience · Associates Degree in an electronics related field · Minimum 10 years of relevant experience. · Previous experience with medical devices preferred, but not required. Work Environment · This is a 100% onsite role at our Lake Forest office. · Working hours to be aligned with engineering staff. · This job operates in both an R&D testing lab and professional office environment. This job includes operating a variety of testing equipment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
