Emergency Homeless Assessment and Referral Center
POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Maintenance/Driver Worker
LOCATION/DEPT: Shield of Hope
REPORTS TO: Program Director
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt
STATUS TYPE: RPT/FPT

DEPARTMENT MISSION
To support the full mission of The Salvation Army by providing maintenance support for the programs of the Emergency Homeless Assessment and Referral Center.

OUTCOMES
Will be responsible for Emergency Homeless Assessment and Referral Center needs. This includes daily mail pick-up/delivery, all food/donation pickups as well as guest transportation needs. Responsible for van and truck cleanliness and upkeep. Carry out vehicle maintenance assigned by Program Director. When transporting Emergency Homeless Assessment and Referral Center guests, a social service staff will always be present during the ride. All transportation and use Emergency Homeless Assessment and Referral Center vehicles will be authorized by the Program Director or Assistance Director. When not involved in maintenance activities, will assist in Emergency Homeless Assessment and Referral Center driving activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Transporting families to and from designated pick-up points and area shelters
Carry out the daily interoffice mail pickup/drop off at DHQ.
Pick up all food donations, pick up bread and other donations as required weekly and complete regular pickups at Greater Chicago Good Depository, etc..
Vacuum and wash van and truck as necessary to maintain a clean vehicle.
Be available for Emergency Homeless Assessment and Response Center guest transportation needs as assigned by Program Director or Program Coordinator.
Carry out vehicle maintenance needs as scheduled and assigned by Program Director or Program Coordinator.
Fulfill all maintenance tasks assigned.
All other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Program Director.
In contacts related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASURMENTS
This individual is evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Some building maintenance experience.
At least 2 years experience as a licensed driver (CDL license preferred).
Valid Driver's license/MVR clearance.
COMPENTENCIES
Must be able to safely drive a vehicle within the requirements of the law.
Knowledge of or a willingness and aptitude to learn the concepts involved with building maintenance.
An ability to maintain some documentation.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
An attention to detail.
A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible.
Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.
POSITION LIMITATIONS
This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
This individual will keep the Program Director and Facilities Manager informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do light to moderate physical work.
Must be able to walk up two flights of stairs and lift up to 70 pounds.
In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to move and transport donations, operate a vehicle and use standard maintenance equipment.
The work environment for this position includes a residential and outdoor environment with a low to high noise level. May work in inclement weather. Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.
