Description
Schedule:Rotating, Monday through Friday 7:00am-3:30pm. Will rotate to weekends and holidays based on staffing needs.
The RC Surgical Services reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
Collaborates closely with Anesthesia and Surgical Services leadership to support areas that include, but are not limited to: Operating Rooms, Surgical Services Waiting Rooms, Same Day Surgery (SDS), Post-Anesthesia Recovery Room (PACU) and Central Sterile Supply (CSS).
Unit Communication Coordination:
Assigns, changes and effectively communicates lunch and break times to ORA and IL staff.
Facilitates communication between OR, Anesthesia, SDS, PACU, CSS departments, and waiting areas regarding add-on cases, cancellations, and patients bypassing PACU/going direct to units.
Responds to Emergency Call lights by transporting emergency carts to appropriate OR, notifies managers of such developments in a timely manner.
Functions as department safety officer.
Demonstrate in-depth working knowledge and expertise with clinical based computer systems.
Collaborates with Anesthesia and Surgical leadership to ensure all necessary supplies, support, and equipment are available for OR cases.
Primary trainer for departmental support staff.
Coordination of patient flow and other duties as needed.
Other unit communication coordination functions as needed.
Administrative Support:
Produce 6-week staff schedule with manager review and approval.
Orders unit supplies.
Assists manager and Operating Room Service Coordinators (ORSCs) with scheduling of conference room, meetings.
Other administrative support as needed.
Leadership:
Documents pertinent information for management follow-up to promote favorable outcomes and avoidance of re-work; gives feedback to manager for employee evaluations.
Coordinates department needs for assigned shift and next shift; communicates to management regarding changes necessary to ensure sufficient staff coverage to provide timely support services.
Incumbents train new hires to ensure that all essential functions, policies and procedures are understood and followed.
Prioritizes work flow and resolves issues during assigned shift relating to the transport of patients, specimens, belongings, and surgery scheduling issues.
Sets the tone and models the role exhibiting professional behavior; orients staff to RC role.
Maintains all source documents.
Additional Functions:
As required, transports patients, specimens, and provides OR room turnover.
Identifies and documents opportunities for improvement in the OR Schedule Production process.
Compiles data & reports in support of improvement projects (e.g. on time starts).
Collects and compiles data to produce bi-week and monthly reports for complete audit trail of all transactions.

Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
3-5 years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Basic personal computer knowledge including MS Office and cloud-based scheduling systems (e.g. Surginet, OpTime).
Types minimum of 30 WPM.
Highly organized with attention to detail; ability to function in a fast-paced and stressful environment while performing multiple tasks.
Strong communication skills in order to maintain high productivity and delivery of quality services.
Sound knowledge of daily Surgical Services policies & procedures and operating service priorities.
Ability to make complex, independent judgments under time and stress constraint to both effectively coordinate resources and maintain service levels.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Team work group experience.
Telephone and face-to-face customer service experience.
Previous hospital experience.
