HVAC Mechanic

Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide space comfort for the entire campus community and the buildings they occupy.  The person in this role will install, maintain, and service building and departmental heating ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. This position coordinates work with other trades and must be certified to perform work to levels set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. The person in this role must be able to diagnose complex equipment problems, use sophisticated diagnostic equipment and EPA approved refrigerant reclaim equipment. This is a full-time, on-campus position. Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair refrigeration and cooling equipment; conduct seasonal chiller inspections and related operations/maintenance; maintain and repair refrigeration equipment on campus in accordance with EPA specified guidelines; maintain and repair air and water cooled equipment; maintain and repair ice machines, drinking fountains, and other auxiliary equipment
  • Maintain and repair steam boilers and heating equipment; daily operation of boilers includes keeping operational log, conduct boiler chemistry, and safety testing; maintain and repair main district boilers and steam/condensate loop; conduct yearly steam shutdown and related steam loop and system repairs; maintain and repair all remote boilers, gas and electric heating equipment
  • Maintain and repair air handling, exhaust, and ventilation equipment; install, troubleshoot and maintain air handling units, exhaust systems, and rooftop units; operate and repair controls on all air handling, exhaust and ventilation systems; troubleshoot, repair and maintain lab fume hoods and all auxiliary air handling equipment
  • Operate and maintain building controls systems; troubleshoot, repair, and maintain pneumatic and DDC systems on campus; interact with and troubleshoot BACnet control systems, issues with ALC and Siemens Insight BAS Controls; update and maintain HVAC-R building alarm logs
  • Operate and maintain pool controls and equipment; conduct daily testing of pool water and chemistry; troubleshoot, repair and maintain pool filtration equipment, heating equipment, pumps and controls
