Overview
The vision of the Huskie Academic Success Center (HASC) is to provide comprehensive, accessible and dynamic academic support to NIU students. It is our mission to enhance student success,
partner with academic colleges, and provide programming in a variety of modalities.

We work toward accomplishing our vision and mission by providing:
Comprehensive academic support services in collaboration with campus partners
High-quality academic support that is relevant and attuned to the dynamic needs of NIU students throughout their college journey
Academic skill development and success coaching, both incorporated into academic recovery and success planning and available as on-demand or standalone programming
Support for student success through writing boot camps, one-on-one and integrated writing support
Integrated course-based tutoring in collaboration with academic departments to increase student success, reduce achievement gaps and meet students where they are


HASC is part of Undergraduate Studies and is a partner in the NIU Founder's Memorial Library Learning Commons. Offering a variety of academic support services, the mission of the department is to strengthen students' ability to learn effectively and efficiently. This is accomplished through learning center best practices that are content centered and seek to understand the role of Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Academic Coaching, and the Writing Center at NIU and adapt to meet the diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff.
Position Summary
The Program Coordinator for Course Support (SI and Tutoring) supports the HASC and university-wide initiatives connected to performance-based metrics on academic progress rate, transfer
retention, and graduation rates. SI works in direct partnership with faculty and staff of various programs and departments to create learning experiences in support of retention and persistence
efforts that are driven by student's needs in high-risk courses. The coordinator assist with all aspects of the SI and Tutoring programs; engaging in strategic planning to grow the SI program, facilitating ongoing intensive training sessions of peer SI program leaders; overseeing aspects of recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and scheduling; and supervising and regularly evaluating SI leaders. The coordinator schedules HASC learning assistance activities and works with HASC Director on monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of the SI program, including conducting student surveys, tracking usage and progress reports, and providing impact analyses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Monitoring and Evaluation
Assists with monitoring of SI program implementation and gathers and analyzes all data associated with SI program (e.g., SI attendance, student progress and grade reports, SI attendee feedback, etc.) to evaluate program and facilitate program growth;
works with SI Leaders on developing comprehensive and effective session materials and plans;
Observes SI and Tutor sessions as needed and provides feedback for improvement;
Assists with developing reports for faculty, departments, administrators, and other campus stakeholders on SI program effectiveness.


Daily Operations
Assists with oversight of daily operations of the HASC, providing on-site staff supervision and office coverage as needed.

Learning Support Initiatives
Assists in designing additional learning support initiatives to include study skills workshops.
Helps facilitate training initiatives such as College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor and study skills mentor trainings
