Job Summary:
Reviews and ensures accurate & timely submission of University wide sponsored research grant proposals for standard and routine activity such as NIH R01 proposals and NSF basic research grants.Provides administrative oversight for resulting awards; reviews and processes non-financial post award actions for compliance to sponsor and institutional policies and guidelines.Manages a smaller constituency with an appropriate level of complexity.

Specific Responsibilities:
*Reviews and evaluates incoming award terms and flags unusual circumstances.May recommend standard award agreements for University endorsement.Reviews and processes non-financial post award actions for compliance to sponsor and institutional policies and guidelines.
*Provides assistance & guidance to University faculty & staff, usually one-on-one or in small group settings.Assumes direct contact with faculty as required.
*Ensures compliance with University, federal and agency regulations, policies, forms and guidelines for the conduct of research.Monitors and communicates changes implemented by sponsors.Determines that all University & sponsor requirements are met prior to University's endorsement & submission of proposals and acceptance of awards.

Minimum Qualifications:
*Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
*A minimum of 1-3 years' experience in the administration of sponsored research at an educational institution, in the federal government or at some other entity engaged in sponsored research
*Working knowledge of:
*Federal regulations related to research administration, including Uniform Guidance, RTC terms and conditions
*Other major federal funding agency guidelines including FAR
*Major sponsor electronic systems such as Grants.gov, Commons, Research.gov & FastLane
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
*Computer proficiency -software use may include Microsoft Office suite, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Access, web browsers, email and systems including InfoEd, PeopleSoft, eRA Commons, Research.gov, Fastlane and various sponsor systems
*Compliance -honor Northwestern University policy and external regulatory requirements
*Communication -oral and written: communicates effectively one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts; concise emails, letters and proposals while using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
*Decision Making -follows and teaches others to follow a process method for problem solving.
*Dependability -effectively performs duties and responsibilities; displays attention to detail; supports organizational policies; anticipates demands pressures of assignments and adjusts accordingly.
