1. Full Stack Developer DPI x Cognizant Software Development Apprenticeship Program! The DPI x Cognizant Software Development Apprenticeship is a joint effort put together by Discovery Partners Institute, Cognizant, and City Colleges paid for by a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the US DOL. Students must first complete a 16-week pre-apprenticeship program at City Colleges. After completion of the pre-apprenticeship, they will have the opportunity to interview with Cognizant, and complete a one-year, full time, paid apprenticeship as a software developer. • Have at least an associate degree and 5-years work experience • Or a bachelor's degree and two years of work experience • Ability to work in the U.S. without sponsorship • Live in the Chicagoland Area Applicants must complete the application process and be selected for the pre-apprenticeship program at City Colleges. If selected, applicants will complete a one-hour assessment testing skills needed for a tech career. Upon acceptance and completion of the part-time, free 16-week, Java pre-apprenticeship course, pre-apprentices will be invited to interview as a full-time apprentice with Cognizant. As an apprentice, you will begin a PAID, full-time, year-long apprenticeship program. Please note the pre-apprenticeship program is unpaid and begins August 29 – December 17, 2022. The class meets online Wednesday evenings, in-person Thursday evenings, and in-person Saturday mornings. The deadline for this program is August 5th, but there are limited seats available. We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis to determine: • the meeting of Cognizant requirements • the ability to pursue goals and overcome challenges • interest in tech • the potential to change the tech field through their unique skill set, professional or personal background, or future interests If we receive enough applications meeting the requirements prior to the deadline, the application portal will be closed earlier. Software Developer Apprenticeship Program Break into a fulfilling, well-paying career in technology by starting your journey as a Software Development Apprentice! An apprenticeship is a “learn and earn” opportunity. Software development apprentices are hired by a company to earn an income while learning the tech skills. Discovery Partners Institute (DPI), which is a part of the University of Illinois system, is launching a Software Development Apprenticeship program in Chicago! We're looking for great candidates who: •Have a high school diploma/GED or higher •Are eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship and live in the Chicagoland area •Demonstrate a commitment to pursuing and accomplishing their goals. That's it! We're not looking for previous tech experience. We'll prepare you to thrive in software development through a yearlong pathway that includes 3 months of paid, full-time classroom training and 9 months of paid on-the-job learning. Apprentices can expect to earn at least $25/hour once they start their classroom training. To be eligible for the apprenticeship program, candidates must first apply to and complete DPI's pre-apprenticeship program, “Tech Prep.” Tech Prep is part-time, unpaid virtual training, approximately 4-8 weeks on several programming languages and business skills. After successfully completing Tech Prep, candidates have the opportunity to interview with employer partners who are hiring software development apprentices for the yearlong pathway program.
