Description:

UI Health is seeking an Activity Therapist to join our Inpatient Behavioral Health team. The Activity Therapist is responsible for coordinating inpatient unit programming, including direct group and individual service provision. This position includes organization of programming, communication with patients and all disciplines on the unit, ongoing quality and safety monitoring, and support of unit outcomes and initiatives. Data collection, monitoring of outcomes, and training and supporting peers in provision of services are also key elements of this role. This position is in a behavioral health setting, working primarily on adult and adolescent locked psychiatry units as the primary caseload. Inpatient behavioral health experience is highly desired. Trauma-informed care, acute care, bilingual/bicultural backgrounds, or other relevant skillsets for this area are also desirable.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Organizes and directs an activity therapy program based on facility patients' needs and potential.
Instructs and supervises patients engaged in activities, observes and evaluates patient's progress, writes progress notes on patient's chart, recommends and/or makes appropriate therapy adjustments;
Leads and co-leads milieu activities per program
Plans and implements socialization opportunities in recreation activities
Interviews patients and consults with staff and physicians to plan the level of activity participation for a patient's therapy
Responsible for the physical operation of the activities program including maintenance of equipment, supply inventory, and scheduling of rooms
Communicates and coordinates with other service providers for continuity of services
Communicates changes in health or behavior to appropriate staff
Assists team in developing therapeutic treatment plans and assessing patient progress and treatment
Meets with facility staff (physicians, program directors) to evaluate, develop, and/or adapt the activities program for the current patient-participants
Assists team during consultation with patient and/or family members as needed
Trains and supports peer staff in development of individual and group intervention skills
Provides direct patient care in a therapeutic environment focusing on areas of behavioral modification, improved social skills, and more effective coping skills
Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:


Bachelor's degree with a major in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or a closely related field of study (occupational therapy, music therapy, or group therapy). Preferred Qualifications:
