The Role at a Glance

The Director of Financial Planning will provide subject matter expertise and planning support to financial advisors as a member of Lincoln’s National Planning Institute (NPI). The position will collaborate with financial advisors, their staff, and NPI colleagues to develop financial models, plans, and project materials using financial planning software (e.g., eMoney) to support the advisors’ clients in the areas of estate, retirement, business succession, investment, and income tax planning.

What you’ll be doing

- Provide direction and support to financial advisors by addressing their specific planning inquiries, preparing and presenting financial and estate planning deliverables, and developing advanced and complex financial plans.

- Collaborate and consult with advisors and other team members to build complex financial plans and models to support external client needs.

- Act as a subject matter expert in design and debrief meetings to identify case-specific observations and make appropriate recommendations to advisors.

- Review executed estate and business planning documents and provide summaries, observations, and recommendations based on the specific client fact patterns.

- Review, identify, and communicate recommendations on complex and high net worth cases to advisors and other team members.

- Utilize Lincoln approved financial planning software tools to create complex models for advisors’ client needs.

- Act as the point of contact for financial advisors and staff seeking technical and/or planning support from Lincoln’s National Planning Institute.

- Maintain a national speaking presence at company-wide training events.

- Coach advisors on estate, business succession, retirement, and income tax issues.

- Provide training on financial planning and timely estate, business succession, retirement, and income tax planning topics to team members, advisors, and office staff when necessary.

- Maintain knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends that impact financial planning and collaborate with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.

- Direct and enhance organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.

- Identify and direct the implementation of process improvements that significantly impact quality across the team, department and/or business unit for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.

What we’re looking for

- 5 – 7+ years of financial planning experience with a broker-dealer, RIA, investment firm, law firm, or accounting firm.

- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor’s)

- Juris Doctorate (JD), Master of Laws (LL.M. in taxation), CFP, or CPA highly desirable.

- Strong technical skills in financial planning and estate planning.

- Confident, comfortable communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations.

- Strong relationship management skills with financial advisors and internal stakeholders (e.g. senior management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative solutions.

- Strong project management leadership skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines.

- Expertise with eMoney and MoneyGuide Pro software.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
