This position is responsible for editorial work, writing, project management, client relations, and creative leadership on selected publications published by Northwestern University. The publications group in Global Marketing and Communications offers comprehensive creative services for print publications and marketing materials. Services include communications planning, editing, writing, graphic design, and print management as well as editorial and design support for digital marketing assets.

Responsibilities:
  • Editor of assigned projects. Duties include substantive editing of client-supplied copy for accuracy, clarity, consistency, organization, flow, usage, concision, and conformity with university standards; if necessary, rewriting; preparing copy for designers.
  • Writing copy for brochures, newsletters, magazines, advertisements, and other print or digital publications.
  • Editorial review and proofreading of each assigned project and editorial review of printer proofs for each assigned project.
  • Coordinator/manager of assigned projects. Duties include creating projects in the publications group’s or OGMC’s project database; coordinating print estimates with the production manager; determining, with the production manager and project designer, project schedules; providing estimates, schedules, and project updates to clients; scheduling and leading client meetings, including initial meetings and design presentations; and reviewing OGMC invoices before final client billing.
  • Developing creative concepts, which includes meeting with clients to understand their communication needs, and working with clients, project designers, and other staff members to develop appropriate print publications to meet those needs. Coordinating with others in the Office of Global Marketing and Communications as appropriate for either print or digital marketing assets.
  • Manuscript reviews and backup editorial reviews for projects assigned to other OGMC publications editors.
  • Editing and proofreading of projects produced by other OGMC groups or University units.
  • Other duties as assigned by the director of publications, the assistant vice president for global marketing and communications, or the vice president for global marketing and communications
