AWS GovCloud Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote and in office one day per week). Ideal candidates will live within 50 miles of one of our Pulse Point locations in Atlanta, GA, Indianapolis, IN, Chicago, IL, Richmond, VA, Roanoke, VA, Norfolk, VA, Mason, OH, Portland, ME, St. Louis, MO, Wallingford, CT, Louisville, KY or Houston, TX.

The AWS GovCloud Senior Site Reliability Engineer performs analysis and research of systems and networks. Reviews detailed business and technical requirements to recommend technical solutions.

How you will make an impact:

+ Specializes, creates, and implements cloud-based solutions such as SaaS and PaaS in AWS.

+ Builds multiple cloud environment infrastructure (Compute, Storage, Network, Backups, DR, and Monitoring).

+ Works closely with development teams, cloud security and compliance, cloud automation and cloud infrastructure teams, etc. to execute our multi-cloud offerings.

+ Participates in scaling production systems and technologies, including load balancing, monitoring, distributed systems, and configuration management.

+ Ensures CI/CD and DevOps best practices and compliance for application release and deployment.

+ Performs configuration management duties with the use of AWSConfig, etc.

+ Advocates and implements cloud security policies and best practices with infosec team(s).

+ Interfaces with software vendors for support as well as application and infrastructure teams.

+ Works closely with incident management teams and functionally to ensure quick restoration of service.

+ Works upon request and supports the business via on-call rotation.

+ Responsible for the availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, etc. of our cloud environment.

+ Participates in postmortem activities for all significant cloud related incidents which will include the investigation to establish what happened in detail, find all root causes of the event, and assign actions to correct the problem or improve how it is addressed next time.

+ Works with the appropriate service owners/stakeholders and Cloud Managed Services (CMS) provider to develop runbooks/playbooks containing best practices for troubleshooting steps and tips for the most likely and impactful failure modes and will exercise the runbook/playbooks through group tabletop exercises.

+ Creates re-usable artifacts like CloudFormation templates and contributes to the pool of re-usable code.

+ Ensures architecture and design are compliant with security, cost, performance, and durability best practices and leads cross functional teams to include cloud security and compliance, infrastructure teams, etc. to execute on cloud service offerings.

+ Provides evening and/or weekend support to our internal and external customers as needed.

+ Provides advanced level engineering design functions.

+ Develops complex solutions from business requirements and architectural specifications; provides input to set or amend architectural specifications.

+ Participates in the design of GovCloud architecture.

+ Creates presentations and seeks IT managements approval and acceptance of significant replacements or reconfigurations of major business systems serving the enterprise.

+ Directs the construction of architecture components (e.g., data architecture, application architecture, technical architecture).

+ Proposes opportunities to improve results based on targeted or continuous assessment.

+ Participates in enterprise planning activity, including vendor assessment, technology platform selection and retirement, prioritization, and integration; routinely acts as a subject matter expert for executive management.

Minimum Requirements:

+ Requires an BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study and a minimum of 10 years in one or more of the following: information systems, computer networking, telecommunications, systems development and management required; significant experience with multiple technical and business disciplines required; broad-based experience to plan and design highly complex systems; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

+ U.S. Citizenship is required for this position as it will support the Department of Defense Military OneSource program.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:

+ 8+ years of experience in system administration, application development, infrastructure development in a cloud infrastructure strongly preferred.

+ 6+ years of experience and familiarity with site and AWS cloud infrastructure monitoring systems (CloudWatch, CloudWatch Synthetics, AWS X-Ray, Splunk, etc) strongly preferred.

+ 8+ years of understanding and executing the use of XML, Shell, Perl, YAML, Ruby, Batch, and Python strongly preferred.

+ Prior experience and deep understand of AWS cloud services strongly preferred.

+ Lambda and CloudFormation coding along with branch coding techniques strongly preferred.

+ 6+ years of cloud infrastructure automation technologies (Terraform, CodeDeploy, Puppet, Ansible, Chef) strongly preferred.

+ 6+ years of managing images (e.g. AWS AMIs) including remediation and patching strongly preferred.

+ 6+ years of fundamental understanding of AWS networking fundamentals (VPC, TransitGateway, Routes, etc.) and configuration of health-check services and cloud load balancers (e.g. ELB, ALB, etc.) strongly preferred.

+ 2+ years of cloud database operations and deployment experience (RDS, MySQL/Postgres/Aurora) strongly preferred.

+ 1 or more AWS Cloud certifications preferred.

+ Production experience in large environments using configuration management tools like Terraform or Ansible preferred.

+ Understanding of tracking and ticket management via JIRA and ServiceNow tools preferred.
