Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of Respiratory Care and Neurodiagnostics, performs neurodiagnostics testing including electroencephalograms and multi-modality evoked potentials according to established procedures and standards. Participates in all quality assurance and improvement measures and processes. Accurately edits physiological data for test report.

Every Other Weekend On Call

REPRESENTATIVE FUNCTIONS:

Performs diagnostic EEG studies. Reviews, analyzes and documents patient specific data to determine appropriate recording procedures, methodology and special considerations, if any for diagnostic testing. Communicates with ordering physician if needed to clarify. .

Accurately documents test results in the electronic medical record. Edits, prepares data per procedure to formulate quality test results.

Introduces patient and family to the testing environment, teaches patient about the test, provides for the patient's comfort and safety during the procedure.

Prepares patient for testing, performs neurodiagnostic testing timely and according to protocol and procedure. Utilizes a variety of instrumentation and decision making in the setup and testing of individual patients. Calibrates equipment as appropriate.

Recognizes EEG patterns and clinical signs and symptoms during the study to determine appropriate recording parameters, and makes adjustments/changes as required. Informs physician of seizure activity, and responds to patient emergency situations appropriately.

Performs mobile testing as requested.

Ensures proper care in use and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Troubleshoots equipment, as needed. Collaborates with Neurologists and Neurosciences Department team to determine neurodiagnostic equipment needs and standards.

Promotes continuous improvement in patient experience, work place safety and practice environment.

Maintains current knowledge to ensure a safe working environment. Demonstrates practical application of all infection control standard precautions. Completes annual continuing education units.

Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

The technical knowledge and skills necessary to perform testing and teach all age groups of patients from neonatal through geriatric.

The interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients of all age groups, families and other internal and external customers.

The critical thinking skills and knowledge related to neurodiagnostic testing including the ability to problem solve with minimal support.

Knowledge in EEG waveform analysis and documentation of study results.

Computer knowledge to support documentation, data collection and patient reporting in Electronic Health Record.

Communication skills to discuss clinical and patient information with clinical team.

KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE/REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

High School graduate or equivalent required.

Formal education and training in electro-neurodiagnostic testing with demonstrated working knowledge of EEG, evoked potentials and continuous monitoring.

Minimum of 6-months experience performing EEG testing with demonstrated ability to recognize ictal and inter-ictal electrographic patterns required.

Current BLS certification for healthcare workers.

Board registered through ABRET, preferred.
