The Social Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is now accepting applications for a non-renewable, part-time Lecturer to teach one course in the Chicago Studies Quarter, the College's signature "local study abroad" curricular program, in Spring of 2024. The program will focus on the Calumet region, extending from Chicago's south side along Lake Michigan into Indiana and Michigan, and explore the relationship between its natural and social environments. The course will utilize weekly excursions, guest speakers, and engagement with civic groups and leaders to enrich class readings and assignments.

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in an area relevant to geography or environmental studies and experience teaching at the college level. Practical experience in environmental advocacy in the Chicago area (especially personal scholarship and/or engagement in the Calumet region) is strongly preferred.
