Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Communicable Disease Control Prevention or designee, functions as a specialist in communicabledisease investigation. Interviews persons with reported communicablediseases,evaluatesthe informationcollected,and implementsdiseasecontrol measures in accordancewith the Illinois Department of Public Health's Rules and Regulationsfor the Control of CommunicableDiseases. Conducts investigations as assigned by the Directoror designee. Enters case informationinto electronicdatabases;investigatesand closes cases in internal and external databases, including, but not limited to, the Illinois-NationalElectronic Disease Surveillance System (I-NEDSS) database.
Typical Duties
Investigatessuspected,probable,orconfirmedcasesofcommunicablediseasesasassigned.
CounselsclientsaboutcommunicablediseasesinsuburbanCookCounty
Conducts field investigationsas required per the mode of transmissionof the disease being investigated, counsels and refer to treatment persons with potential exposures
Monitors, investigates,and enters information into internal andexternal databases); electronically completes cases as appropriate
Completes morbidity and other disease investigation and case management reports in accordancewith CDC and IDPH guidelines. Enters informationon cases into databases (e.g., I-NEDSS)
Routinely runs and reviews reports inI-NEDSS, X-DRO registry and/or other surveillance systems as necessary

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor'sDegreefromanaccreditedcollegeoruniversity (Must provide Official Transcripts at time of Interview)
One(1)yearprofessionalexperienceintheareaof communicablediseasecontrol (required)
PositionmayrequirelocaltravelforwhichtheemployeemustpossessavalidIllinoisdriver's licenseandhaveaccesstoaninsuredvehicle orotherwiseprovideanacceptable andreliable means of transportation (Must provide proof at time of Interview)
Mustbe trainedandcertifiedinNIMSFEMAIS -100.b and700.aManagementwithinsix (6)monthsof employment(required) (Must provide proof at time of Interview)
Proficiencyin MicrosoftOffice(Word,Excel,andPowerPoint)
Bilingual
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in public health or the natural sciences, from an accredited college or university.

This position is functioningwithin a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherenceto all hospital and department-specificsafetyrequirements. This includes but is not limited to the following policies and procedures: complying with Personal Protective Equipment requirements, hand washing, and sanitizing practices, complying with department-specific engineering and work practice controls, and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital-wide policy and departmental procedures.
