About This Position
The Senior Research Editor, Insight manages and develops content promoting the thought leadership generated by faculty and affiliates of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. This candidate will be a part of a team charged with expanding and shaping the direction of Kellogg Insight, our digital hub of thought leadership, and expanding the production and dissemination of such content via other channels.
This position is responsible for overseeing content that communicates faculty research to a broad but sophisticated business audience. The ideal candidate is a sharp developmental editor with significant experience strategizing for audience development, making metrics-based decisions, and managing sensitive and complex special projects. The position will directly supervise freelance writers and help to mentor more junior staff, with a focus not only on Kellogg Insight but also on the development of content across multiple channels, including LinkedIn and our newsletters. The position will develop and lead a new process for producing additional content for new channels, in collaboration with faculty and with staff across Kellogg.
This candidate should have a demonstrated ability to communicate scientific/economic/technical information in an engaging way. Familiarity with the academic research process is a must, as is the ability to work closely with faculty across multiple disciplines to convey complex research in meaningful ways. Multimedia storytelling and data visualization experience is strongly preferred. This role works closely with the Editor in Chief, Business and Art Editor, Multimedia Editor, Marketing Manager, and other staff across Kellogg responsible for producing and distributing content. This role is also responsible for recruiting and managing a large pool of freelance science writers. Limited evening and weekend hours as needed.
This role offers a hybrid schedule.
Specific Responsibilities:
Manage research editorial services for Kellogg Insight
Edit research
Design and edit data visualizations
Coordinate with faculty to fact-check
Recruit and manage our pool of freelance research writers
Mentor staff
Recruit freelance science writers
Manage freelance science writers
Find and procure additional content for multiple channels for thought leadership
Build and foster relationships with Kellogg School faculty
Solicit and curate content from faculty
Synthesize faculty expertise with emerging business trends
Build processes to link additional content with distribution channels
Manage special projects
Print edition
Additional editorial platforms (e.g., newsletter)
Contribute to audience development strategy
Make metrics-based editorial decisions
Work with External Relations to promote Insight content
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
Masters degree in journalism, social science, communication, or other related field
